How is your Toyota original paint?

I've had several new cars and SUVs in my life, but never had a truck like my 2005 4runner.

The paint on the body looks factory new after 15 years of driving in the hot, hot, hot Bahamian sun.

The brand new 1996 GMC JIMMY I bought off a dealer's lot in Stuart Florida rusted away so bad I sold her for $800, to get it out of my sight.

Tell us what year Toyota when you post.

How does Toyota do it?

My paint started leaking (drop or two weekly) after treating it with a synthetic paint sealant. I have since gone back to conventional paint sealant and now only get an occasional drip.

My Driftwood Pearl looks like shat. The hood and roof have faded terribly. Granted, it spent a good deal of it's life in the Az sun before I moved east but I have seen similar stories with this color.

My silver '07 looks great overall but there's some odd, faint, hairline cracking in the hood clearcoat that I fear will eventually become an issue. Then there's the bubbling on the tailgate but that's not the paint's fault as rust was coming through from inside the hatch.

My 04 black actually isn’t too bad (other than the scratches) except for the wheel arch plastic. They’re all terribly faded.

Side note regarding the scratches. I brought the truck in recently for some recalls. This was the check-in inspection:

2014? damn. My '07 nautical blue's clear is peeling and flaking in sheets off the roof and along the window bottoms. I'm rather bummed, as my '09 silver 4runner was factory mint, right up to getting totaled.

Last time I had a vehicle with paint issues it was a 1979 Chevy Malibu that GM silver just washed off with a hose.

Mine is trashed.
Between water spots, rock chips and pinstripe repair (buffer)...droped a kayak and gouged a nice line down the rear passenger door... i need to spend a couple days on this to shine it up right now. Not sure i care how purdy me 16 year old truck looks.

My 2008 Driftwood Pearl has clearcoat failure on hood and area around moon roof. Also, the cheap chrome plated grill is all rippled.
This one is gonna cost me next spring. Never had a vehicle do this before.

05 grey roof clear is almost gone.
hood clear peeled off a bit and I re-shot some clear to make it better.
Top surfaces for sure get a beating, but I haven't waxed it and it is parked outside and it was a Vegas car prior to me owning it now.

Paint is basically just plastic, and it'll wear out in UV

My white 08 looks great. The paint itself is fine other than some dings here and there, but overall in great shape. I'm considering raptor lining the whole thing army or OD green, but if I hate it there's no going back. Maybe I'll wrap it instead......

03, 187k miles.
Paint is still in great shape.
Haven’t waxed it since the spring so need to do it again soon.
After washing and waxing it has lots of luster and still gives a mirror like reflection.
Previous owner likely garaged it as do I.
Was a PA car originally though, so does have plenty of rust underneath, but the frame is still solid.
Here it is about 2 years ago, most recent pic I’ve got.

'07 in Shadow Grey Mica here; It's been garage kept here and there for various amounts of time, but either way I've always kept a good coat of wax on it. Paint is looking good after 13 years!

I got that "blue" Toyota paint on my 2005. Still looks great after 15 years.
