sunroof leaking up front but front drains not clogged

Hi guys-

I park my car on a slight downhill slope. Often when it rains a decent amount, I will have water leak through between the small strip of headliner and the front of the sunglasses holder. Initially it was one of my front drains being plugged. I would blast it with air and pour water down and see that it would clear up.

This morning it was raining and I briefly opened my sunroof to look at the space where it would seem water would collect - where the drains are - there was no water collection. However, soon after driving (usually after a sharp turn) water came down.

Any ideas for where this could be coming from? Could an area I can't see be going to the front drains and they keep getting clogged? (I could try trimmer string) Or is there another area that water could be collecting? I know there are back drains, but if the failed would the water spillover so far toward the front (and bypass the front drains)?

Thanks!

My experience with sunroofs on other cars is there’s a drip train all the way around, so I’m willing to bet there’s some water collecting in the rear area of the sunroof.

Let’s assume that you definitely have the front drains cleared and they stay cleared.

If the rear lines get clogged, you might have buildup of water in the rear are of the sun roof. Then during a turn that whole mass of water is moving at once. It’s not exactly “bypassing” the front drains, but it’s too much to drain at once. Kinda like dumping a 5 gallon bucket in the bath tub: it won’t drain immediately.

I wish I had more to offer. Whether it’s leaks or mechanism problems, dealing with sunroofs in general is sucky work. Best of luck!
