08 V8 ECU - CEL and Readiness codes - Air Injection

I'm looking to buy a 08 V8 Runner this weekend and pretty stoked on it. I don't want to let my desire get the best of me and make sure I'm looking things over well.

I have an OBD scanner (OBDLink) and would like to connect and check for any pending codes and readiness codes that seem off. I know the truck previously had a code for Air Injection (P1442) that has been cleared but not blocked off or remedied. It's been reset and allegedly has not come back on. Price has been factored to account for the bypass kit but I'd just like to do my due diligence and use the tools that I have at my disposal. P1442 does not seem to be worrisome but I know that some of the air codes imply a more extensive "fix."

Are there any particular readiness codes that would be helpful here?

If it were me trying to buy this vehicle I wouldn't just get them to adjust the price for a by-pass kit, I would insist that they adjusted the price to replace the SAI pump since that's the issue with the vehicle.

Be sure to fully inspect the frame for rust since I'm assuming it from Maryland as well, if the frame has more than just surface rust no amount of price adjusting would entice me to purchase it!

Good advice. If I were giving advice to someone on the internet, I'd say the same thing. Maybe I should take my own advice or maybe I've learned more since looking. I specifically want an 06+ v8 only. I've passed on 5+ after seeing frame pictures. My state uses a lot of salt. This one is a few hours from me and has a very good frame and is a clean looking truck. Generally, I could pass and keep looking. It may take months longer to find something and I may end up driving out to see multiples that end up being more rusty than I'd like. I've gotta value my time and sanity at something. I've also learned that not every Carolina truck is rust free.

Finding a good one for a normal price is very hard. They're selling fast. I need tons of pictures to verify and most sellers won't do it unless they're asking top dollar. Ones that are priced well sell immediately without dealing with a picky person like me. At least, that's how I'm justifying it. Maybe rising gas prices will drive v8 prices down. Maybe inflation will go to the moon. Who knows...

I don't like that the air injection system is problematic but it seems like they pretty much all will be problematic at some point. I generally keep my vehicles for a long time anyways.

Anybody have a reference for checking the ECU system to verify that the one code is all I've had?

I do understand where you're coming from, I looked for over 3 years before I found mine and that was 6 years ago now.

You can purchase a Bluetooth OBDII dongle and use the phone apps to read codes and pending codes as well as many other types of info and functions, you can also clear codes with them, there are many different brands of dongles out there and as far as apps I would suggest the Torque app, either the Torque Lite free app or the Torque Pro for a annual fee to use with the dongle, the dongle start out around $20 to $25 and go up, the one I use is for Android based phones and works well< they also have a Wi-Fi one for ISO Phones but I'm not sure if the Torque app works with the Wi-Fi version/ISO phones.

Simply plug the dongle into the OBDII port and pair it up with your phone after you download an App.
