Pioneer TS-SW2002D2 SUB OVERHEATING??

Originally i was running Pioneer TS-SW2002D2 with a tiny dual amp that was rated at 150 rms. Sub sounded good, but after 10mins of bass I'd smell burning plastic. Thought it was the amp since it looked as if it had been installed before when I got it and went with an Alpine MRV-M250 instead at $100. Still sounds great, but still get the smell. Amp is under right front seat and smell is definitely coming from sub. I know several are using this sub as I made my decision based on what I read here. Anyone else having issues with the sub? I know amp can push 250w rms and speaker is only at 150w rms, but gain is below 50%. Any ideas or recommendations?? Thanks!

No issues with my Pioneer sub, running a 200w rms amp.

Is yours wired correctly? It’s a dual voice coil sub, and needs to be wired differently.

This is the wiring I used

if that's all it is, I'd be really happy!

The Pioneer sub is 2 ohm, and I assume your amp is 4 ohm, so you would want the wiring in the first pic.

Thanks

I thought I had it wired correctly. Guess I'm going to continue search for a sub that handles more power. I need to find the box and look at the test measurements, one on crutchfield shows actual 291watts for that amp. They listed the amp at 150w at 4 ohms or 250w rms at 2ohm, if I wired it another way could I only push the 150 instead of 250+??? Thanks again!

I have the same speaker and connected the 2 pairs of wires from Stock JBL or Speaker per below. Sorry I don't have photos.

Side One of Sub: Red Wire to Red on Speaker; Yellow Wire to black on Speaker;

Side Two: Black Wire to Red on Speaker; Green Wire to black on Speaker;

Hope this helps since mine has been running fine for > 6 months now.

Mike
