Update on my 04 TR4. Longevity mods?
316k...
04 V6 4wd
Got it from a friend, the only owner, for $2000.
Condition I would describe as very good mechanically and cosmetically. I always was googoo over their T4R and got lucky enough to be the first “I’ll take it”.
Interior was very clean. Just needs mats (went weather tech custom). I had it detailed and the detailer was in shock regarding the quality of its condition. Some pits in the paint, and small areas of rust around the gate. Having a body shop check it out on Monday.
I had a decent amount of mechanical work done, some necessary, others were “while you are at it” calls I made. Better to do it once and do it right. I did what I could, had a trusted friend do what I couldn’t. The forum community helped me IMMENSELY through this initial phase of getting it up to where I wanted it mechanically and cosmetically.
-differentials serviced
-cabin air filter
-oil change, filter, lube
-Alternator drive belt replaced
-ABS Speed sensor harness (R) replaced
-spark plugs replaced
-radiator (had a leak, replaced)
-both valve cover gaskets replaced (had leak by dipstick)
-control arms replaced
-alignment
-sway bar control links replaced
-new shocks and struts
-replaced the spare rim (cracked)
-a bunch of fun in the dashboard stuff
-Cooper at3 ltx 265 75 16 + spare
The frame is in amazing (Colorado) condition. No rust. The vehicle has now been looked over by two trusted service centers, and both said it is in very good condition for the miles.
So, selling my Outback and Suburban today. This will be my daily driver. With it being at 316k, with a goal of getting it to 500k around ten years from now, I want to ask the following...
What else can I do to keep my T4R in such good condition? I was thinking frame film, but, asides from the work I had done, is there anything else I am missing?

Wow - a lot of work - great
I think at this point youre getting into the territory of prevention may be just as expensive as fixes. Unfortunately, you cant prevent everything, so i think you just hope for the best and any issues come up you deal with them as they come.
Hope youre enjoying it

Welcome to the club. I am glad to see there are people still keeping these on the road with the mileage getting up there. All too often I see these being neglected by the standard owner. It looks like you have gone through it meticulously, the only thing I would suggest is making sure the timing belt and water pump have been done at the last interval necessary.

So OP has a V6, which runs on a timing chain, should last the life of the engine, no belt to worry about other then the serpentine, and losing that won't necessarily grenade an engine...
At the stated mileage, I would be looking at the fuel delivery system, the injectors could be getting weak and clogged, as could the fuel pump. Have you serviced the transmission? The transfer case? The rear control arms( my bushings were going out at 190k). How is the starter? U-joints? Power steering and transmission hoses, radiator hoses, fan clutch...I would really focus on fluids and hoses, as clean full fluids keep components working. When I replaced my water pump at 200k, I did so because I wanted peace of mind, knowing I had never seen a water pump last that long back in the day. I was shocked at how decent the old pump still was, probably could've gone another 50-100k with just flushing the radiator. So, if you keep your fluids clean and full and your hoses are in good shape, you should be good for the most part

Since it's a V6 which has a timing chain....many say the timing chain could need replacing at around 300,000 miles...so if the timing chain hasn't ever been replaced I would check it to see how stretched it is, to check it search the forum for "timing chain tensioner" and you should find a description of how to check it, but basically you remove the inspection cover and see how far the tensioner is extended, if it's extended too much it's time to do the timing chain replacement.
Also you may want to flush the brake and power steering fluids if that's not been done.

Oh snap, You right! For some reason I was thinking it was a V8. In that case you won't have to both lol. As the others mentioned... fluids would be the only other thing I can think of. Then just replacing stuff as it wears out... axles, wheel hubs, etc. which depending on the last owners replacement of items I would say things will start to come up sooner than later.
Seems like you got everything pretty much covered and into for prob less than $4,000. Not too shabby.

Both have been done.
I have to pay off the initial service and then my plan is water pump and timing chain (if needed).

Sounds like at this point you just need to keep everything lubed and exercised. Examples are: hatch latch, spare tire mechanism, 4x4 mechanicals and I would have the inside of the frame oiled. Something else to monitor is the rear brake lines, they only last so long in the rust belt. I replaced all of them on mine over a year ago.
