Adding a USB outlet...which system to tap?

Adding a USB outlet to the center console of my 4Runner...need MORE POWER OUTLETS!

Should I tap into the existing 12V outlet's wiring system or the cigarette lighter wiring system?

USB outlet is the following:
Amazon.com: Quick Charge 3.0 USB Car Charger, BAODANTECH 12V/24V 36W Aluminum Waterproof Dual QC3.0 Fast Charge Socket Power Adapter Outlet with LED Voltmeter for Marine Boat Motorcycle RV Golf Cart (Blue): Electronics

Again, thank you EVERYONE for all the help with my T4R!

Awesome. Can I tap into those and still retain the functionality of the lighter (even though I am a non-smoker)?

Thank you for your help!

Another option is to use a fuse tap and ground out on a chassis bolt. There’s one under the lower driver side panel near where you’ll be tapping into a fuse.

That is the easiest and most convenient. Yes you retain it as long as you don’t cut sever the connection to it.

If you want to charge anything with the car off you need to do the 12V outlets mod (Toyota 4Runner Constant Full Time 12V Power Outlet Mod) or do a fuse tap to one of the spots that always have power. I did both (mod to have cigarette lighter sockets always on and fuse tap for USB charger), but fuse tap might be easier.

The factory wiring may not be able to handle that much current. If someone plugs into the lighter socket and the usb outlet you could burn the wire.

Use an add a circuit and run a dedicated wire to the usb outlet

Previous mentioned idea of add a fuse is great. I prefer fused / home run wiring. Easily reversible. Easy to trouble shoot.

I avoid half tap wiring. It can cause future headaches. Running new wire is not difficult.
