I'm curious of the source of the diagram, is it from Toyota?
I wouldn't think they would call the cup a lifter unless it's something that got worded that way in a translation from Japanese to English.

The V6 one I found online a few years back when I was looking for torque values when doing the head work on my son's car. I had it saved on my computer.
The V8 one is from searching of a lot of online parts sites for exploded diagrams.

Things like this are why I have trust issues with someone else working on one of our vehicles. I believe not only was the timing belt installed incorrectly, but the head work was done wrong.
Knowing how the valves work on these engines, I can't even imagine a scenario where a "lifter" would all of a sudden have something wrong with it...unless it was on the valve that the piston ran into due to an improperly installed timing belt
