Has anyone tried 5th or 6th gen OEM wheels/tires?

My '04 needs tires and someone nearby has a like-new set of 2021 take-offs for sale. The wheel offset looks to be 15mm different as the '21 wheel offset is ET15 vs. the '04 which is ET30. Is that enough to worry about?

Most people are able to run the 5th gen wheels with no problem. However, if its the tires too, they are slightly bigger than 4th gen stocks (265/70/17 vs 265/65/17).

There are some other threads on here you can search and read through about 265 70 17 on stocks.

Bottom line- you may be fine, may have minor rubbing with bigger tires. If you have a lift, will be fine no issues

Wheels will fit fine. If going up to 265/70/17 tires you might need to trim, but not likely.

There is no 6th gen out yet. The OEM wheel and tire size on the 5th gen will fit on the 4th gen easily.

I have the 7 spoke 5th gen wheels (17x7.5) that are shown in my signature photo. I also have a set of 17x7 6 spoke 5th gen oem wheels.

33” tires, 3”F/2”R suspension lift, +1” body lift.

I did minimal fender trimming and moving the inner front wheel well liners, and no rubbing at all. I’m also running Spidertrax 1.25” wheel spacers.

I have my OG suspension with early 5th gen trail edition wheels (17x7.5 +15) and 265/70r17 falken wildpeaks. Rubbed just a tad bit on full lock turning, but that was fixed by stretching the fender liners

I've got some pics on both the wheels/tires and the fender liner stretch linked here

Thanks for all the great responses guys. I found a set of take-offs from a 21' Tacoma TRD Offroad - 265/70R16, which is the exact tire size I have now. Even though I have 16" wheels, I'm still a little rattled by something I found online-

"TRD Pro wheels are available in 2 sizes: 16" diameter and 17" diameter. Both of these TRD Pro wheels are 7" wide. The 16" TRD Pro wheels are made specifically for Tacomas, and the 17" TRD Pro wheels are made specifically for 4Runners and FJ Cruisers"

The offset is ET13 (assuming I did my homework correctly) so it seems like they should work. Any obvious flaws in my logic?

I have the black TRD pro 17" rims on my '05. The offset is +4mm and allows my 33" tires to clear my JBA UCAs. They work really well and look nice too.

The stock brakes on the sr5 4th gens are small enough to allow the use of a 16" wheel. However, the sport edition and Limited brakes are larger and require 17s I believe.

Here's a FAQ I found on the TRD pro rims.

Just to clarify, I believe that the distinction of the 16" rims being only for the Tacomas is due to the fact that all 5th gen 4runners require 17" rims, and they're not including us guys with the old sr5 4th gens. I would be really confident that those 16" TRD pros would be fine for you.

My 4th gen Limited (bought used) came with 17” rims, but the smaller brakes so I can also use 16” rims. I have one set of 16” rims and tires (265/75r16), and they fit great. My rims are not OEM Toyota, but close. They are Prime wheels, and were a port installed option for the “Southeast Edition” or the “Texas Edition” 4Runner. I bought the wheels used.

The wheels in my signature photo are 17”.

I assume some Limiteds have the optional (?) bigger brakes. Mine just doesn’t.
