I'm thinking on this kit. I figure coated calipers should help prevent corrosion which should help prevent seizing. Is that logical?

I think I want to steer clear of slotted/drilled rotors. They theoretically seem great in certain circumstances, but I've read that if they get mud/dirt/etc in them it can wreak havoc.

I picked the pads I did because that's what is in their Z23 Kit. Rotors picked mainly on above recommendation.

Thoughts? Changes?

I think I'd like to flush all the brake fluid as well. I see DOT 3 or 4 is recommended. I've seen various hints on this forum about supposed "non-Toyota" fluid ruining a seal in the master cylinder, any truth to that?

If not, what fluid should I go with?

I see RockAuto has this.

That is what populates when I select my vehicle. I believe I've seen two quarts, so purchasing three for bleeding may be wise? I'd really like to get this order in today.

I think I'm settled on the PowerStop Coated Calipers, Centrix Rotors, but between the Akebono or PowerStop pads, which should I go for?

Some aftermarket calipers have stainless steel pistons. That would be a big step forward. But also, flush the brake fluid every 1-2 years.

That Bosch fluid will be fine, though you could go to the parts store and use any DOT 3 or 4 off the shelf. Ive used valvoline full synthetic and ATE. Too bad ATE super blue cannot be imported, that stuff was great for bleeding. I think I went near 3qt, though YMMV.

Pads . . . either are fine though Ive found akebono to be a bit dirty on other makes.

If you don't like seeing brake dust on your wheels, stick with a ceramic composite pad like the ProActs. I have them with the Centric rotors and you can't tell the factory alloys have any brake dust unless you run a finger through it. Same coefficient of friction as OEM without the mess, even though factory was also supposed to be ceramic, I think, but it's dusting was much worse.

I'm such a fan that I swapped my E46 convertible over to Akebono ceramics ASAP after I'd taken care of the neglected and way overdue maintenance items. Some will disagree, but I couldn't tell a difference in stopping power with the OEM pads (maybe the Akebono's need a little heat in them first). OTOH, the OEM BMW pads practically coated the wheels before you could hit the end of the driveway after washing. :-)
