Thanks for this. IIRC, the basis of the lawsuit against Toyota was that the frames were not effectively coated with anticorrosion material. That's the issue, not the metal. Another unfortunate example of such an error is inside the tailgate, where they applied sound-deadening before the corrosion protection, allowing moisture to get trapped underneath and cause rust, visible as the notorious paint bubbles below the license plate area of the hatch.
