I just swapped mine out . Ordered one from the dealer with my paint code. It comes painted and is a 5 min. install. it was like $175-200. Read my sig. it was the best mod I could have done to this truck , I HATED the chrome grill not to mention the ugliness of smoked chrome. Always looks yellowish , dirty.
Dont waste you money trying to strip it , have a body shop paint it , it will cost less just buying a different one.

I myself am also seriously considering this mod. Although for me, I am also partial to the smoke chrome. It compliments the SHADOW MICA paint quite well and the matching smoked headlamp bezels. However, every time I see a LIMITED with a color matched grill I am forced to reconsider. Another thing holding me back is that the grill seems more durable than a painted surface since I do plenty of highway miles. There are a few small micro chips on my hood but my smoked grill seems unscathed for the most part. Oh the dilemma.

After seeing a picture of a Silver 06 SE with the hood scoop and color matched grill, I can't look at my truck the same until I get the Limited grill. I do like the smoke grill for one reason.....bugs come off easily with steel wool when washing
I think that will be the next addition to the truck.
I believe I saw that pic on this site but I can't find it anymore after searching. Anyone?

You mean this thread? I actually have it bookmarked since I keep going back to it. The color keyed grill does make an SE look nicer in a different way. I'm still undecided.

Just remember chrome , smoked chrome , is just chromed plastic I would highly doubt there is better durability since the chromed is actually painted on and not dipped like a bumper is. The bumper type of chrome of actually a metal coating , the plastic chrome is actually a sprayed on process.

Yeah, you definetly wouldn't want to paint it. After you buy from an online dealer and sell the smoked chrome one your net cost can be lower than $50, mine was.

Just did the mod. Walked into the dealership on Friday evening, picked up the grill on Saturday morning. Installed and looks great. Got it for $139 from the dealer. Not bad.
The look is awesome. Especially since I know that there are very few, if any around my way with this mod. Color matched grill on a SE. Very Nice!
