Will the fuel tank skid from a 2020 4runner fit the 4th gen?
I need a new gas tank skid and from what I can tell looking at pictures, the 5th gen looks identical to the 4th gen.

Interesting thought, I could use a new fuel tank skid.
Ill have the chance to thoroughly inspect the dimensions on a 2013 4Runner this weekend.

The tanks come back as sharing the same PN but the skids appear to be unique (at least in PN options). Probably would be fine, but can't say for sure. Do you have a good deal for a 5th gen plate or what?
Why not just go aftermarket to something a little more HD?

$300-$400 is outside my budget. Just looking for a used one and adding 5th gen makes it easier to find

I hear ya. Looking at a couple aftermarket options shows they are universal fit for 4th & 5th gens. As far as OEM, the link below is best I could find. Sounds like they may be same/similar geometry but potentially different fastening points. See #9 & on..

Just recently someone posted info about this, he said the skids are exactly the same except one of the "legs" has the be modified because on the 5th Gen it's longer, so he had to cut it and reweld it.
I don't remember which year 5th Gen he was referring too, he decided to check it out because a new 5th Gen skid is around half the price of a 4th Gen for some reason.

I remember seeing this too. I think he had to elongate one or both of the straps by ~1.5" and it fit right up. OP, you'd need a welder, but it would also be cheap to have someone do it too.

Its near impossible to find a used OEM fuel tank skid, never mind one thats in usable condition. So instead of overpaying for a pos Thin tin skid, I found this RCI skid for $300, steel in black powder-coat. Got a 5% discount by adding to the cart and letting it set for a few days. Shipping was only $25. Driving with no protection on a plastic gas tank makes me nervous.
