Looking for pricing advice on 2006 Limited 4WD V6

I'm having a heck of a time pricing out comps--I'm either finding V8's, way more or way less mileage, different trim, non-4WD, etc.

The short of it is I'm probably selling my 4th gen once my new car gets here in a week or two. I don't want to come off as a delusional a-hole so I'd like to start at a realistic and fair price.

2006 Toyota 4Runner Limited 4WD V6
194K miles
Shadow mica/tan

-Dobinsons 2" suspension
-FN f(x) pro wheels 17x8
-BFG KO2 in 275/70-17
-Front Runner Slimline roof rack
-Treeline Outdoors RTT (w/ annex and some small accessories)
-Gobi rear hatch ladder
-Wilco Offset Hitchgate
-Caliraised flush mount 30" bumper LED bar

I've owned it for the past 5 years, put about 45K miles on it and loved it. 4WD engages fine, same with CDL.

Two cons about the car, it's 15 years old so leather shows wear, paint is good, but not great. No fading clearcoat or anything, just scuffs and some scratches. Second is when I was out camping I accidentally reversed into a stump that I couldn't see and cracked the passenger taillight. Haven't ever replaced it because it hasn't caused any issues yet (doesn't collect water or anything).

I was thinking of starting at $11,500 as it sits with RTT and everything or $9,500 without the tent. Does this seem fair or am I already thinking too high. Tent setup new is about ~$3800 shipped to your door which is how I came to ~$2K for it. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Some pics for reference; only difference between these and now is I took off the ARB awning and my Front Runner accessories:

Photos of the cons:

Dunno about $11.5K even with the accessories.
Basically needs new foglight and headlight lens - filmy and that busted tail light lens and need the seats to be recovered

you make no mention of major recent maintenance.

Just the opinion of a guy that has been looking at different 4runners for the last couple of years to possibly replace my 26 year old POS

So please forgive me on the length of this--a few things I wanted to touch on. I definitely appreciate the input from someone who is in the market and has been looking at a wide variety. How much lower would you think is fair? $10,500 as it sits?

No mention of maintenance because nothing of note. I consider maintaining a car to be a basic standard of ownership, but I do realize that not everyone follows through so I probably should have explicitly said it. Fluids done regularly, brakes done since I've owned it, any issues have been addressed (power steering pump was squeaky once and replaced). I originally went V6 for timing chain since that was less headache than belt changes.

I do feel as a seller some of what you mentioned feels a little unrealistic for a buyer to expect those items to be perfect on a 15 year old nearly 200K car. Headlight restoration kits are out there and work well before needing to replace the actual unit, the leather is in 6/10 shape, but still work great--nowhere near falling apart and needing a full recover (maybe some Clazzios).

I think it comes with the territory of shopping a decade and a half old car that there will be some cosmetic issues if you aren't looking at a time capsule car. There is a tradeoff for me and while I could spend $1K making it look brand new inside and out, I doubt it would add $1K in value to market value as it sits now. I'm just trying to figure out what market value is as it sits and let the next owner decide if the cosmetics are important enough to mess with.

Personally, I wouldn’t even look at this if it was listed for $7,000. BUT that is my opinion.

My other opinion is to take off as much as you can, which you’ve added over the years, make it look less like an off road vehicle, and more like a pavement princess and price it at $9,500 and go from there.

If someone doesn’t want or need those mods, they’re worthless to the buyer and the buyer isn’t going to pay you for them. You’ve got a set of $800 wheels on it that doesn’t mean much to the average Joe either.

If you were closer I’d swap you stock parts for your stuff. Haha!

I just bought an absolutely spotless 2008, with zero rust, 116k miles, and needs nothing fixed for $13,900. I’m switching all the fluids to Amsoil, but don’t expect that from a babied DD.

That is very valid and I definitely know I'm looking at a targeted audience. Unfortunately the stock wheels, suspension, and rack are gone or else I'd actually have considered it as an option. At this point it sounds a little like a crapshoot--someone will pay what they think it is worth if it's built for their use. My best bet might just be to post it up and see what someone offers. I did connect with someone earlier who said they were interested at $8K without the tent so I've at least got a bottom dollar set

That’s why anymore I hang onto to stock stuff UNLESS it’s a vehicle that is going to bring top dollar when modified (like my 84’ Bronco...no one wants those stock).

$8,000 is very reasonable in my opinion. I would take off anything you can, and sell it separately. Best way to recoup expenses, like that hitch with the tire carrier.

I do like those wheels...they are the best looking wheels for a 4Runner and pricey.

One thing you haven't mentioned that if I were a buyer looking I would like to know...what is the build date on the VIN sticker?

If before 12-05 and being the V6 it has the old design head gaskets and they could go bad or not at any time, if the build date is 12-05 or later then that would be a good selling point to mention because it would have the re-designed head gaskets.

200k is a big negative, v8 or v6. Most people know all the maintenance needs to be done now like wheel bearings, water pump, belts. You can never trust a seller, that the work was done or worse, done correctly. Now yours has been modified. Only a kid would want it because adults know the work is probably substandard and going to cost big bucks to maintain (in their mind). Im not talking about you, just sellers in general.

If you want $11,000 plus, return it to stock and sell your goodies later. I dont even look at trucks that have been modded, especially with a roof rack like that because it screams abused trail truck. If Im looking for a truck with 200k miles, I want a grocery getter, mall crawler that has life left. As it sits, you’d be lucky to get $8-9,000.

That said I just bought a 2007 sport for $6500 last summer with 222,000 miles. So yours would need to be polished up to get north of $9000 or sold in CA where money is cheap for rich kids

If youre looking to get the most money, id take off what you can and sell the accessories on facebook, here, local 4runner group, 4runner classifieds FB group

9k is a good starting point, but depends on the market in Texas right now - if theres a shortage - then the price will be up. The market is all over the place right now

There's a sucker, er buyer born every minute.

That said, if you want to ask top dollar, I would at a minimum get the headlights/foglights polished and uv sealed. Also replace that broken taillight, even if its a used ebay part.

A full exterior detail, and a light inside cleaning. Remove the external mods, tent, trail hitch set up, get it as stock as possible.

You might get your ask, you might negotiate down. 200k brings maintenance needs. But a kid with a hard-on will buy a turd because he's hard, and your vehicle appeals. (been there both ways, as seller and buyer)

Don’t be scared of a 200k 4Runner lol. Gather up your service records and receipts so you can easily present them when asked. I keep mine in a binder and write the mileage on it. For example, ATF WS receipt for 13 qts already had the date so I added the current mileage.

Like others stated, take off as many accessories as you can reasonably take off and sell them separately. Post the truck in as many places as you can. West coast prices are crazy so I think your certainly in the ballpark. Good luck and congrats on the new truck too!

Here's what my grandfather always told me, " a car is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it". There might be people out there looking for just a truck. The 4th gen 4runners are increasing in value so you might be ok. Try selling it the way it is and you never know. If you want to maximize your money, give it a really good detail in and out. I would buff the headlights, get a set of used or A/M set of fog lamps because those are no good. A good maintenance history is a big plus if a potential buyer comes along. A new drivers seat cover can be bought on Ebay for about 100.00 and are simple to install.

To get an idea of pricing, go on car gurus and look for 06-09 4runners across the country. This might give you a better idea of what to ask.

Good luck.

Sort of fell of the face of the planet there for a bit and never checked up on this—I really appreciate everyone’s perspective. It’s always good to get a wide range of reactions to see what all aspects of the market are thinking. I never officially listed it for sale, but did post about selling it soon on a couple local WTB ads. As it stands I’ve got a buyer who is coming from Arkansas next week to pick it up—we agreed on $10.5k as it sits with the tent pending everything checking out as described once he gets here.
