MPG hit with lift and tires

Looking at suspension upgrades and I am debating the tire size. What kind of MPG hit will I take with a lift and 285s?

Tires

I run 285s on my FJ (and my 4R). Just switching from Mickey Tomson Baja ATZ to BFG got me 3mpg, so your question depends.....

Good point. I am looking at Falcon AT3s so I think they are in the middle on weight.

An all terrain will generally be lighter thus more MPG. Mud terrains are usually heavier thus less MPG.

You might also consider a C load tire unless you want the 10 ply E load, again helps with being lighter and more fuel efficient.

I noticed a difference going from E load 285/70 mud terrains to P rated 285/70 all terrains.

Simply switching from the atz p3 to ko2 netted an increase of 3 mpg?

Weight and rolling resistance impact MPGs. Hence a mud terrain might get worse mpg than an AT even at the same weight. Those Falken AT3Ws look like a great tire but damn they’re heavy in C load 285s

I switched from stock rims with P265/70/17 Falken AT3W to TRD Pro rims with LT255/75/17 Cooper ST Maxx and went from 15.8 down to 13.9 avg mpg. Made me sad.

My 275/65/18 XL Ridge Grapps clocked in at 45lbs. Not too shabby imo.
