Keeping going back and forth on options, but was curious if anyone has ran one of those new-ish mirrors that have Apple CarPlay and just take advantage of the factory aux-in?

It is an add on so your steering wheel and data from your OBD port can communicate with the head unit.

I know I should make a post about it, but the forum doesn’t allow me yet..:

I have an issue after changing my head unit with the TYTO-01 (JBL).

Issue that I have with my cluster is the RPM is not working at the speed is not working. The temperature is not working the fuel gauge is working, but is lagging and also moves back-and-forth. The seatbelt light is flashing and the check engine light doesn’t turn on.
The “PRND” lights works perfectly.
I have checked most of the fuses and they’re all working fine.

Well I finally decided to do something and went a different direction than most. I am really really happy with the results.

Instead of replacing my headunit I added one of those Apple CarPlay/Dashcam mirrors. I simply have the aux wire routed through the headliner and into my factory aux-in. Sound quality actually seems great. Added bonus is my fridge and rear tire carrier totally blocks my back window, so with the rear camera I can see out the back finally! You can set the mirror up to be half camera (either front or rear), half CarPlay or full screen CarPlay. I will likely keep it CarPlay and rear camera to use it as a digital rear view mirror.

Here is a link to what I the one I bought (actually bought a few and kept the one that seemed the best quality) and a few photos.

Hello, thanks for this information. chanced on it when I was researching some options for my 2004 4Runner SR5.

I looked at the C'Field options but those are not withing my budget, i am actually looking at some cheaper options like what we have below. I would like to know the following.
  1. Do I need extra harness or wiring kit? I don't care about the reverse cam.
  2. Depth of the unit - at 3.93 inches / 100mm will that be a problem.
  3. Do I need to order a kit to cover the left and right sides of the unit as you have it? or I can use the ones from my current units which is also a pioneer aftermarket one I got several years ago.

Wow this is pretty wild. How long does it take for your phone to connect when you turn on the car? How is using the interface while driving? Where did you connect the power? (Looks like it may have a cigarette lighter adapter?) So many questions haha…

Do you still like this unit? I am looking to put one into my 2010 Limited.

No! It broke shortly after this and became super intermittent. The pioneer support was also horrible. Really disappointing all around.

I’ve since moved on to an ATOTO unit. I have a full breakdown here:

Hey - Quoting a fairly old post, but curious which trim kit this is.

Researching some of the older threads, a lot of the trim kits did not look as sleek.

I believe it was a Metra Dash Kit. It was purchased alongside the stereo from Crutchfield. I recommend you reach out to Crutchfield to ensure the dashkit will work with your aftermarket stereo. Their customer service is typically quite helpful.
