Is it worth getting a dyno tune?

I just ordered everything for my exhaust, JBA long tube headers, AFE CAI, URD Y pipe, URD exhaust cam gears, and will be doing a custom catback exhaust as well. With all that would it be worth taking it to a shop to get tuned? I don't imagine buying a ECU flash chip would be all that effective. I'm looking to get more power and hopefully a little better gas mileage around town. My combined average is 14.2(33s with 3:91 gearing probably doesn't help) I have the 06 with the 4.0 V6

If you figure out a way to throw on performance parts that yield more power while also getting your better MPG please let me know. lol.

With regards to "is it worth it?" I guess it depends on what your budget is vs the gains you will see. Generally speaking, the more expensive performance upgrades get, the higher the Gain Expectation vs Gain Reality starts to differ lol.

Just curious, if you're not doing a flash... how exactly are you planning on having this "tuned"? A dyno shop can't just plug into your ECU and remap stuff.. a cheap piggyback ecu/blackbox tuner won't really be effective, and a more serious engine management route is pricey to say the least even just from the parts stand point and to do a proper tune also isn't cheap. This being a lifted 4th gen on big tires I highly doubt you're expectations of performance for the money you'll spend will ever be met.

Well ideally I can find a shop you can do a flash tune, I don't expect huge power gains, but I know that the 4.0 has some decent potential even without forced induction. If I can't find a shop that can do a flash tune within 3 hours of me(sacramento area) I will probably get the Ucon EMS that URD sells. I will have to ask Gadget about it for more info before I drop the $1500 on it. As for MPG I don't expect to have any improvement but it would be nice. In theory it's possible because the factory fuel management runs a bit rich from what I understand, but if I was super concerned about MPG I wouldn't be running 33" a 3" lift and a front plate bumper with a winch. It would be nice to get better then 16 on the highway though! Is it worth getting a dyno tune?

I'm no engine tuning expert, but I thought the Toyota ECU was pretty locked down. Most people complain about not being able to change much of anything.

While I find all this interesting, but I sincerely question to value of doing it. I don't think id ever do this much... engine is a tank as-is. I'd leave good enough alone.

If fuel savings is a goal, I wonder how much was spent to get to this stage... I doubt you would ever see an ROI for the life of the vehicle. Id just save the money and buy more recycled dinosaurs.

The way I see it is if you can find someone do it, They always say there's reliability, fuel efficiency, and performance, pick two. From Toyota we really only get one so there's gotta be room for improvement.
