Will I Damage Anything Driving on Failed Rear Air Suspension?

Last night the rear end of my 2008 4Runner Limited started sagging and bouncing over bumps when driving home. It has XREAS and RAS.

Does it hurt the vehicle driving it for a couple of days until my mechanic can diagnose?

Thanks

What would cause both sides of the rear end to drop?

Maybe one rear bad popped or air line broke, causing the rear "springs" (which was the bags) to completely deflate

Personally I would be more worried about general saftey and getting into an accident more so than hurting the vehicle.

Just drop it off and ask the dealer for a complimentary rental... they almost always oblige.

Time to Switch to Coils?

Won’t drive it until it’s looked at by a mechanic, but not going to dealer. Wondering if it’s cost prohibitive to fix air suspension, and perhaps time to switch to coils and shocks (it has XREAS).

Biggest question seems to be what aftermarket solution for lower coil spring mount. Thoughts?

Thanks!

My understanding is that replacing the rear air is not a big deal (relatively speaking). I think there’s a few threads/vids repairing it on the gx470 (which all had rear air). It could be something simple like an air line is leaking/popped off, sensor is off etc.

XREAS is a different story. It has to be removed at certain detach points and components can be replaced. I believe there is only a small amount of fluid that can spill and still maintain operation - hence the detach points that have one way valves

Disclaimer to the above - this is only what I’ve read have not had to do any of the above myself

Good luck!

I had my XReas replaced with Bilstein 5100's about 4 years ago. Good decision.
