A guy on here (meefzah) did this on a long trip in place of a drain pan: he used a flat-ish box, lined it with a trash bag (two is safer IMO), and drained the oil into that. Then tied up the bag and took it to a recycling center.

Must have been quite a pain to drain the trash bags into a storage tank.

Don't change anything.

Check the level, adjust if oil is needed, and just drive home and do it when you get there.

Engines are NOT as sensitive as our paranoid minds are.

I thought of that just after I posted it, thought about deleting the post, and decided to leave it as a monument to my lack of imagination.

my thought also. don't know anything about your vehicle, but i would just keep a few quarts in the vehicle, keep it topped up, and do it at home.

This is good advice,

If you want, go to a Walmart buy the correct amount of oil, a drain pan, and a rachet to take out the drain plug.

Next morning drain the oil and refill with new oil. Shouldn't take more than 10 minurtes.

If you can't get underneath the car go to a shop that has a lift.

I have a 4runner. I can do a D/F without a jack.

You can buy a cheap jack at WM, Amazon or any auto parts store - and put it in the trunk.

Amazon.com: BIG RED T820014S Torin Hydraulic Trolley Service/Floor Jack with Blow Mold Carrying Storage Case, 1.5 Ton (3,000 lb) Capacity, Red: Automotive

@zguy1

So what did you end up doing? I am late to the party and didn't see this until today.

If you're still in the area and want to change, I live about 40 miles from Boulder and my garage is available~~

(that said, I agree with the comment above that you will be fine until you get home… Highway driving is the easiest on your engine's oil and I regularly took my 4R over 10,000 miles)

No worries. It worked out. I was able to change it. Picked up an oil pan from Freight Harbor and got a piece of cardboard and a plastic cup. Had the tools, gloves and rags already.

Got back home a few days ago. Thanks for checking though.
