Interesting, I have had great luck with Dorman products actually. They have some great repair kits that help fix common issues. Town Car intake manifolds, GM exhaust manifolds come to mind quickest. I can't say I have used any of their reman stuff. Frankly, I don't think I have even ever seen a Dorman reman. Napa and Oreilly's tend to use Cardone a lot... I try to use dealer stuff when I can but I am often at the mercy of who can get me the part the fastest. I manage a fleet of 35 livery vehicles and timing in critical.

Do calipers when necessary IE sticking pistons, pistons that retract hard when doing the brake job, or when mileage becomes a concern.
You are an AH Warwicke. yOU NEED YOUR MOUTH WASHED OUT WITH SOAP?

I have my brakes done at a professional shop, so your post is BS. I don't touch brakes. I watched a mechanic who works 9 to 5 doing the job struggle with the old frozen calipers. I'm in the Bahamas.

Brake job done once on my 2005 4runner. Brakes fine for approximately 8 years now - so your comment is garbage like your face.

ok, just picked up my parts order from the dealer (tax free NH!). here's the list:

pad kit $49.61
rotor $76 each
fit kit $14
shim kit $19
reman calipers $110 each

called toyota parts. there told me that the calipers are rebuilt by toyota, using toyota parts, and should perform the same as originals.

Right now its Raybestos R-300 rotors, Akebono performance pads and im between new or remanufactured calipers both Raybestos.

Anyone recommend one over the other? Why? price wise its pretty close, Its cheaper the reman route by maybe $50-$70 depending on what the shipping costs to send the old ones back but I do have to package the and ship back so that's time and effort aswell.

Going to pick up my 2 cans of caliper paint that I paid $5 for later today
I"m probably too late, but from my experience and the comments of others on the "5th gen brake upgrade thread", the increase in braking performance is crap. I did the 5th gen brake upgrade to rid myself the frozen caliper issue. It didn't. I live in the rust belt (PA) and my calipers lasted 2 years. Because even reman OEM calipers were stupidly expensive, I went with (can't remember the manufacture nor does RockAuto which is strange.......anyway) calipers that were coated (to prevent rust). I want to say I'm at 3-4 years with no brake issue. As far as feeling an improvement in braking........... meh......... not really. I don't do see (nobody has posted data on the 5th gen caliper upgrade) or feel any increase in braking. The 5th gen brake upgrade is a dud IMO.

Do yourself a favor and just get quality brake hardware for your rig. I like to wrench like the next guy on here, but replacing calipers every year (or often) isn't something I want to do. I don't care about the "lifetime warranty", that just tells me "it's a guaranteed piece of sh++". I have better things to do, with all due respect.

Good luck

I have found that Napa has far better quality than places like Rock Auto and Advance Lifetime Warranty calipers. YMMV?

I am going down shortly today to get my 5th gen calipers from NAPA both front and rears. They are remains with a limited lifetime warranty, adaptive one Manufacturer.

I was going to go with the Raybestos element3 but nice to have NAPA local as it will be a lot easier if something goes wrong. I want to paint them red but we’ll see how they look if it’s worth messing with or not.

Already have and need to install

-Centric Rotors front and rears (5th Gen upfront) where the hubs and outside vents are painted black (parts that rust)

-Akebono ASP Pro ceramic pads front and rears

If nothing else they’ll look a lot nice and cleaner than my rusted rotors’ hubs and dingy rusting calipers. I went 5th gen as replacements because why not? Replacing anyways.

My rig has Raybestos element3 calipers also. Bought them two years ago, and no issues so far.

I ended up ordering the Element3 calipers, Wagner professional rotors and akebono pads.

Currently buried in my garage until I start going through the rest of the crap i moved in there. Gonna start to work on it soon as my brakes are getting worse.

The bigger rotors should help with heat and at the end of the day I have to replace everything anyway why not try it out. I ordered a set of stainless steel brake lines to go along with it!

On another note my soon to be ex wife ordered Powerstop kit for My... Her 2018 Honda pilot which arnt known to be very good on them. Honda pilots are known for having very small rotors for the size of the suv and to make it worse all she ended up doing was have someone put the pads on and left the rotors... Gotta make sure you get a good rotor for them.

Im annoyed at her.. Don't mind my rant divorce is on my brain.

For what it's worth... all calipers listed on Rock Auto are remanufactured, as of Nov 2023. "Warranties" differ between brands.
