Weird thunk after idling for a few seconds

I've got a weird kind of thunk sound/feeling that happens after I've come to a complete stop and been idling for 1-3 seconds. It's not a driveshaft since it doesn't occur until after the car has come to a complete and total stop for more than 1 second. I'm guessing that means transmission? Any thoughts on what's going on? I did a fluid swap with valvoline maxlife 3000 miles ago.

Put your truck in neutral as you come to a stop and see if you get the same effect.

Good thought, will try that this afternoon. Any thoughts on what I'm looking at if shifting to Neutral as I come to a stop makes it go away?

If it goes away then your torque converter is upset with you. The solution is to make up with it and make it happy. This would require new Toyota ATF thrown in there.

If your torque converter refuses your peace offering then a new one may be needed.

1. Do you have any codes when you scan?

2. What temperature does it get up to when you're driving? If you can't answer this question then it's hard to know what's going on.

I've had the driveshaft clunk occur under those conditions so you might look at that before going on to something else.

Regarding the driveline clunk on AWD V8's. The front driveshaft at the tcase doesn't get lubed by the dealer as often as it should due to the protective shield in place below it.

If any one of your U-joint's were to go it would be the front one at the tcase. Ask me how I know...
