Does this timing belt kit look legit?

Just wondering if I could get some opinions if this kit looks legit to you (for my v8 2004)? The price is way too good, so that's why I hesitated. On the other hand, I did get a similar-ish OEM kit from eBay years ago for my old 3rd gen and it turned out fine.

COMPLETE Timing Belt & Water Pump Kit V8 4.7 Genuine Fits For 4Runner Tundra LX | eBay

Thanks!

Yeah, it's hard to tell from those photos. The parts look like they have genuine packaging, but something seems sketchy with them. Like the boxes and labeling aren't quite right.

Just buy this kit: Amazon.com: AISIN TKT-021 Engine Timing Belt Kit with Water Pump, grey: Automotive

EOM quality, have it on my 03, recommended by my buddy who is a Toyota Master Mechanic.

Also recommend replacing the thermostat while you are in there - Amazon.com: Genuine Toyota 90916-03100 Thermostat: Automotive

As well as the accessory belt and pulleys/tensioner. They have to come off anyhow - More Information for GATES 90K38488

If you haven't gotten one yet, you will also need the crank pulley holder - Amazon.com: Schley (SCH64300) Lexus and Toyota Harmonic Damper Pulley Holding Tool: Automotive

If you look closely you will notice that even though the packages/boxes all are the correct Toyota color scheme not a single one of them has Toyota written on them, you can bet they're all Chinese parts, and it's also way over priced for "Geniune" Chinese parts!

Just buy the Aisin kit that xtremewlr posted from Amazon and you should be good!

Yep, you are totally right. I wish I saw that before I hit order, but I was able to get a refund thankfully. I compared the parts in the pic with pics of parts from a $300 OEM kit and you're totally right. The belt had no writing on it, nor did any of the other parts. Thanks for helping me dodge that bullet.

I'm still torn between the Aisin kit or this one Genuine Timing Belt Water Pump Kit For Toyota Lexus 4Runner Sequoia V8 4.7L OEM | eBay

Edited to add: Nope, guess not since there are reviews for this seller that say counterfeit parts too. Man, what the heck! Guess I'll just do the Aisin kit but throw in an OEM water pump since I'm seeing the reviews say the Aisin water pumps fail.

Edited again to add: Found in the search that people recommend this aircabman eBay seller as having genuine OEM kits. I think I'm going to pull the trigger on this one given all the recommendations COMPLETE Timing Belt + Water Pump Kit V8 4.7 Genuine & OE Manufacture Parts | eBay

Still not totally clear if we're doing the camshaft seals and what not, but I'm at 187k miles so it wouldn't be a terrible idea right? Or if they're dry just let them go until the next timing belt job?

I know Aisin is basically OEM or makes OEM for Toyota but man I always get nervous not going OEM. I'll tally up the difference in cost and see, since I know even the guy that's helping me do the belt job recommended Aisin since it's what he used in his 4.7 Tundra too.

Call me old fashioned or overly cautious, but anything safety related or that could cause significant damage if it fails get replaced with genuine Toyota parts - purchased from a local dealer. I've come to mistrust anything advertised on eBay as "OEM" since so many times, it's not. The amount of counterfeit (usually Chinese) parts out there is truly staggering. And sometimes - like with NGK spark plugs - it's damn hard to tell that it's fake. At least with a spark plug though, it's an easy fix. A timing belt, uh, not so much.

I tend to agree, but this seller aircabman is pretty well vetted by this forum and people have been running his kits for years and years (doing several timing belt jobs with them). That tells me it's not chinesium junk since that shit fails quicker than that.

There are other places aside from the local dealer you can get better deals on OEM stuff though. Amayama is a good place to check, and I've used before. Their price on inner tie rods can't be beat. Camelback usually does a good job for everything else.

Agreed, but I cheat. I work at a local Toyota dealership.

Oh well that's not even fair! Haha! Those of us mortals without a discount have to get creative.

yeah...too many stories about fake toyota parts on ebay and sometimes amazon too... last time I bought the asin kit of rock auto and worked out good...but then I am starting to hear issue with rock auto stuff too..

so next time, I am just going with local toyota dealer who thankfully has online parts and price is usually little bit more then ebay, amazon or rock auto... I will pay that extra just for piece of mind for the real toyota parts.

Seems that way. This aircabman though seems legit and vetted by a lot of other users here. Most importantly, vetted over a long period.

21k miles on the Aisin kit, including water pump, since I did it last year. Works fine.

I’ve only had the aisin kit on my GX for a year and 15k miles but no issues there. Also have the aisin on my tundra for about a year and 25k miles and no issues there either. Did both my self and expect to see them last 90k or more pretty easily
