Tire/Wheel fitment Questions

Hey guys, used the site a ton with my 4th Gen so far but haven’t been much of a poster because there is tons of good info already. Now I need some specific help.

I have a 2004 SR5 4x4 V6. Bilstein 5150’s on factory setting, OME 884/895, SPC uppers. My wheel plan was a 17x8 0 offset, paired with a 275/70/17. I want to run Cooper Discoverer AT3 XLT’s, which they unfortunately don’t make in that size. So I can jump to a 285 and cooper does manufacture those. I don’t mind trimming but do not want to have to do a body chop. What’s the chances I’m going to rub the body mount? Would a 17x8 -10 offset help me a bit? Does anyone run this setup without issues?

Thanks guys. I’ve done a bunch of searching but looking for specifics I can’t nail down.

You’ll have less problems with the 0 offset. The -10 pushes the wheel out further towards the body mount. With a 285/70 you’ll likely need the BMC, just hard to fit that wide of a tire without cutting it. Have you checked to see if they make that tire in a 255/80r17? Might avoid the chop with the skinny 33.

You will definitely need to do the body mount chop when going that large. You may rub less than most with the UCA's you listed. The front plastic inner bumper will need to be trimmed and you will rub on your windshield washer reservoir.

32's are much more forgiving and will guarantee you don't need a body mount chop.

I’ve considered the 255’s, but I’m not huge on the skinny tall tire look!

So I am good with the trimming, just don’t really want to hack up the body mounts on this thing. Guess I may be stuck with 32’s from someone else.

i wouldn't necessarily listen to everyone here saying "you'll DEFINITELY need to do a body mount chop!". i have basically the same set-up as you - OME 884 in front, 895 in the back, SPC UCA's - only difference is i have OME shocks as opposed to 5100's. i run 285/70/17 with no issues at all. zero rubbing. all i had to do was push the fender liner forward (which i did before i even got the tires installed). i did trim a tiny section (less than half an inch wide) of the front bumper just to make sure there was no rub at full front droop. no BMC required at all since the SPC's allow a ton of forward adjustment to get away from the mount.

that said - as mentioned before, it's the -10mm off-set wheels that may cause some issues. i have TRD Pro wheels which are +4mm i think...def a big difference than what you're going with. i'm willing to bet that there's more than a few people this forum running a similar suspension setup with -10mm wheels/285's so let's hope someone else can comment from experience. in the end, it's gonna be hard to know until you do it. good luck!

**EDIT** just realized in your first sentence you mentioned you have 0 offsets you can use. lol! my bad. i think you'll be good with 285's on those wheels with your current suspension set-up.

I just went through this. I have Bilstein 5100 all around set at 2.5'', a set of 17x9 -12 wheels, BFG KO2 285/70/17. I'm still using factory UCAs and springs.
I removed front mud flaps, trimmed front fender and pushed the liner forward by about 6 inches.
I only rub a little bit when backing up on uneven road. The rub was on fender behind the front mud flap (left and right), and a bit on body mount on the left. It's pretty minor and can be ignored in daily use. I'm sure it will be worse offroading.
My left has a caster of 2.2 and right 2.5. I think probably that's why my right rub less. I ordered new UCAs and will install them and try to get more than 3 on caster. I think I'll be OK after that.
For your case, I think you are likely to be fine.

Thanks man. I felt like the reason I installed the UCA's was to help with the fitment of larger tire anyway!
