JBL issue - sound cutting in/out after disconnecting battery

Hi all

Recently acquired a 4th Gen - very excited about it!

It is fairly well sorted however the OEM Nav unit has one issue: The prior owner was replacing a bulb and disconnected the battery for access. After hooking it back up, the radio wasn't working properly.

It powers up, the nav screen works, CD's can be ejected/inserted, however, the sound cuts in and out. It is hard to describe, but it almost sounds like when a CD is skipping where you can hear a second of sound that goes in and out. This happens with am/fm/CD/Aux. If I try a voice command, the 'say a command' voice comes in clear.

I checked the radio and amp fuses which were fine (didn't think they'd be blown since the unit powers up and there is some sound). I tried resetting the radio by turning the key forward when already starting... that didn't help.

I attached a video to help describe what I am hearing.

I'd rather not jump straight to replacing the unit as it seems to be working fine otherwise.

Appreciate the help!

I don't know what the issue could be but one thing you could try if you haven't already.

I have a JBL system in my 2004 but it's not a nav system, but my volume knob has stop working in that it will not change the volume level or is erratic at best but the volume is constant but doesn't cut out like your's is doing and some others have this same issue as well, but I can still change the volume level via the steering wheel controls, if you haven't try the steering wheel controls try and see if that may work for you, your volume knob could be going out and possibly causing your issue.

Thanks for the idea, but it didn't help.

However, here is my solution. How people figured this stuff out before the internet - who knows!

Audio Problems with all Sound - 08 Limited Nav System | Toyota Sienna Forum - siennachat.com

Unplug the rear DVD system and the audio works like a charm. How or why that is the case, I have no idea. I'm tempted to look at some wiring diagrams, but at this juncture, just happy to enjoy the great sound! I don't plan on using the rear DVD system much anyways, but would be interesting to see where the issue is.

Hope this helps someone in the future!
