Preventative Maintenance before a 2,000 miles roadtrip with a 507,000 mile V8 4Runner

My 2008 SE V8 4Runner has 507,000 miles and the original drivetrain. I am going through everything in preparation for a 2000 mile trip from Los Angeles to Glacier National Park in Montana.

Here's a list of what I have done and if I'm missing something major please chime in. Within the last year I have done the following:

Denso spark plugs and inspected coils
All new coolant hoses, fan clutch, thermostat, and new red fluid.
Timing Belt done 2 years ago at 483,000 miles
JBA UCAs with new bushings and Moog ball joints.
LCA new ball joints and bushings.
Aftermarket CV axles and new cv axle differential seals and new fluid.
All new sway bar bushigns and links.
new oem air filter and cabin filter
new power steering (toyota atf) fluid and used GX470 pump from parts yard
All new OEM Toyota brake lines except two custom extended lines and DOT 3 fluid.
Powerstop front pads and rotors
Durobump stops
Inner and Outer Tie Rod ends
Cam tab gussets
Spindle Gussets
PML High capacity transmission pan and new Toyota WS fluid
Talon's Garage 1/4" thick aluminum transmission skid plate (on order)
OME medium 2895 rear coils
New Autozone gold battery
rear trailing arm skids

Things I want to do before I go:
rear diff fluid swap

I carry a tire patch kit and air compressor at all times plus a self jumping battery. Then the usual assorted tools.

To me, it sounds like you are about as prepared as you can be. I don't have nearly 500k miles (will be just over 200k this summer), but it looks like you've done all appropriate maintenance and preparation. Just a couple thoughts, but I'm assuming you've already though of them judging by this pretty thorough list:

Grease all driveshaft zerks.
When was the radiator last replaced? Mine was leaking around 120k and then needed replaced again around 170k.
Random hoses like transmission cooler and pcv hoses all look good? My cooler lines (the rubber ones) were sweating recently so I replaced them, and pcv hose was cracked around the connection to the pcv valve so replaced it. I would just give all hoses under the hood a good look over (but again, judging by this list I am assuming you've already though of all of this).

Cheers to those miles though, I hope to wear the 500k badge of honor one day. Enjoy the trip!

I've replaced a handful of power steering and transmission cooler hoses but not all. Same with PCV hoses etc. I grease my lower ball joints and driveshafts before every weekend trip.

With 507,000 miles or 815937 KMs in Canada, have you ever encountered any issues with the Secondary Air Injection Pump? Highlighted here Secondary Air Injection Pump Failure on V8's! Important!

Glacier Park - maybe my favorite place. I agree, it seems you’ve been pretty thorough. Besides carrying some extra fluids, such as oil, distilled water, etc., my only recommendation is a AAA membership or something similar. And make sure your photo equipment is up to snuff, and bring more batteries than you need, and an extra SD card or two. Enjoy your trip!

Zig553,
I have read up on that and have not had any issues. The truck has lived in CA its entire life so corrosion, rust, etc is not an issue. Not sure if that has anything to do with it or not.

Thennen,
I upgraded to the 200 mile AAA tow a few months ago in preparation. Let's hope I do not need it. I've been going to GNP for over 30 years and it's getting harder every time with the new reservations and crowds.

You got to pump up those numbers. Those are rookie numbers! Even my 1988 FJ62 Landcruiser has 315,000 miles on it.

Are you the original owner? I'm 200 miles short of reaching 180,000 on my 2005 that I've owned since new. I'll be in my 80s, 90s or dead before I reach 500,000

Check your spare tire for proper air pressure and possible dry rot.

Yeah, we got married in 1985, and honeymooned in Glacier/Yellowstone. Made it an annual thing for the next 11 years, then had kids and all that came to a halt. We finally took the kids out there in 2012, and it was a good bit different even then. Glacier is much different today - it was much more 'simple' then, and less crowded. Kinda miss the good old days.
