4wd won't engage with rear DS removed

I shredded my rear diff while wheeling so I removed driveshaft. I assumed I could put it in 4hi and drive it in front wheel drive to get it off the trail but it only engages for a few seconds and stops.

Is something else screwed up too?

I have a new front diff from ECGS on the way but I'm now worried that when I install it I'm still not gonna have 4wd.

Any thoughts on why it won't drive in 4hi as a front wheel drive truck? I've read many other people have done it.

Something else in your front end is probably screwed up. With the rear driveshaft removed and your truck in 4Hi it should be 2wd with the front.

V8 4Runners do this by locking the center diff. Do the 2WD V6's have a center diff lock? You need to have that on for the front to work for us.

You need to lock the center diff.

4x4 without the CDL locked will transfer the power to missing driveshaft. CDL will put equal power to both outputs.

Idk about 2wd but my 4wd does and it's super obvious now that you guys mentioned it. Lol

Thank you
