16" 2004 Tacoma wheels on a 2004 Limited questions > bigger tires

My son has a set of stock alloy tacoma wheels out back.

My best measuring and googling say these are 16" wheels and 7" wide. 15mm offset and about 4.5 inches of BS.

My stock Limited wheels are 17" x 7.5" with 30mm of offset and 5.5" of BS

The Tacoma wheels would sit slightly farther out of the wheel well and allow me to run a bigger tire with less chance of rubbing, correct?

I have an Eibach lift coming that should give me 2.5" up front and 1" in the back.

I'd like to put 265/80/16s on the Tacoma wheels which would be 32.7"

Is this a solid plan or am I missing something?

If I’m not mistaken in order to accomplish this you will need to grind down the dust plate and certain calipers from the 4th gens are too large for 16” wheels. I believe the sport and limited had the larger calipers

Thanks! I can just throw the rim on with no tire to check, right?

The other issue that I am just finding is that there doesn't seem to be as many tire choices. Though I saw the tire size above on a chart It doesn't seem to exist in real life.

My ’04 Limited has the smaller 319mm rotors and calipers. It came stock with 17” rims, but I have one set of aftermarket 16” rims with 265/75r16 tires that are ~31.9”. I didn’t have to grind down my dust plates.

I need to look into this. The wife has 18" factory's on her 08 limited, Want to go to 16" wheels from the SR5 so I have a bigger selection of tires.

I wish I test fitted my rims last night. A set of those wheels with good AT 265/75 16s came up on FB today for only 300. Contacted the guy right away but had to delay going over to come home and test fit my sons old one.

They fit but the delay caused me to miss out on the wheels.

You need to make sure 16” wheels will fit on the ’08.

The calipers for the smaller 319mm rotors are stamped WG. If the calipers don’t have a WG on them, you can’t fit 16” rims.

Is it pictured with the 16s? If so, why the spare on top? Did it not fit in the stock space?

No, those are 5th gen 7-spoke 17” rims in my pic. The tires are 33.1”(255/80r17), so I don’t think the spare would fit anyway, but my spare tire mechanism underneath is broken. Newer models have a chain (I think), but my mechanism was a cable that rotted away. I had to cut the cable to get my old spare out. I haven’t put a new mechanism in yet.

It does seem that the 4runner is hub centric and those early taco tundra wheels are lug centric. You can buy a set for about $15
