Gas smell after tank strap breaking

I asked in the fuel tank strap thread but no responses.

I had the rear strap break on my 03 and before fixing it I noticed a gas smell, was worse when driving but also present when it was just sitting. After fixing the strap I did some troubleshooting and ended up having to replace the evap valve on the charcoal cannister (actually whole cannister since can't just buy the valve). That seemed to help but I'm still getting a gas smell, it's present after stopping and turning off the truck and to a lesser extent when just sitting. It also will take a few extra cranks to start after turning it off and back on again say after running into the store.

Anyone else have an issue like this following strap breaking? I couldn't see any hoses ripped or broken but not easy to see clearly on top of the tank.

Thanks,

Have you checked the fuel filler hose or neck? Its not an easy spot to look at but using a cheap usb borescope from Amazon will help for looking. Do you top up your fuel tank past when the pump auto clicks off? That dumps fuel into your evap canister and could be the cause if so.

Otherwise, you have to check all hoses and fuel pressure regs/dampers.

Wink

I thought I did check but I'll see about the borescope (already have).

I did used to fill past the click. I've since stopped after replacing the charcoal cannister.

Thanks,
