KNOCKING noise over bumps???

05 sport v8 4x4 240K. knocking in front area going into driveway or driving down slightly irregular paved road (notice under 35mph). Not driveshaft or pads. Had master cert Toyota tech spend an hour plus with assistant and can't find it. Said he thought it was flex connection in front of muffler. Had flex and muffler replaced...knock still there. My son and I thing RF is loudest but hear something on R mid to rear (wifes thinks noise in R side mid/rear). Can't hear nosie outside truck with assistant. New Xreas shocks before I picked up truck. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated. Thx in advance

Do you notice it while turning the wheel?
Is it one knock or multiple?

Possibly worn sway bar bushings. They will clunk when hitting bumps.

Not a squeak or a rattle, not pad clips. Knocking and repititive. 3 bumps 3 knocks. I have had my toyota tech ck everything as well i have been under checking everything. It is tight and appears good. I am going to check body to frame mounts this weekend...maybe not in suspension or steering???? If I drive down a slightly bumpy road it just knocks multiple times. It's like a pop or knock.

turning dose not make it knock/pop unless you add a bump ie driveway entrance.

This. Especially after 240k it will be worthwhile.

This sounds like the same problem i have. Ive replaced all sway bar links and bushings. I like to find the problem but everything seems tight and in proper working order under the truck, im clueless. I havent checked body mounts yet. 2005 v6 130k miles.

This weekend I will be all over my 4runner, hopefully find something! I will keep everyone updated. Eventually I will find the issue. It's funny cuz you can n ot hear it when standing by the front and going into driveway...only in the cab...plus frt end appears solid. I am thinking steering rack, inner tie rod ends, body mounts???? Some mentioned front bumper mounts in a thread?? I'm checking all that....

I'm having the same problem from right front wheel area. Doesn't happen on the left side. Notice it going over small bumps. just a popping sound that is driving me nuts. I ordered sway bar bushings and a new sway bar link for that side. Lets keep this post going because I think there are more that have this going on.

Stopped by another shop that had a Lexus master cert tech, actually was part of lexus R&D. Diagnosed as R inner tie rod end...well 230 plus later still has knock and steering wheel crooked! Said he would put his mechanic easrs on and keep charging me TS time. Won't be back other than to have him correct the off center steering wheel. Be back Monday to have them sq away. Had new Xreas installed 6/12....front and rear...almost sounds like all 4 shocks are banging knocking. RF is the loudest. Ready to throw some Bilstiens height adjustables on the truck...Ive bot over $400 into theis noise right now... I found all 4 Bilstiens for $360.

Sounds like it could be the right front strut bearing(bushing) at the top I know I've seen some posts here or on 120 about this. I have the exact same sound and it drives me nut's just haven't taken it in to my suspension place to get them to check it out..

I don't think it's your suspension. I have billies up front and noise still persists. I'm hoping sway bar link fixes. Every thread I've seen on this, no one has diagnosed and it always seems to be right front.

Mine sound like that, and I know they are blown. Fluid leaking out of the lines. I got you beat on Bilstein price though. Check these guys out. Toyota 4-Runner Front Bilstein 5100 Ride Height Adjustable Shocks 03-2009 w/ Optional Rear Shocks Just ordered mine, will be here in a few days.

Pull the front sway bar off, drive, noise still there? Not the sway bar.

I had two front end mystery noises.
The first was the headlight assembly hitting the fender, top edge at the pointy part. Sandpaper plastic of headlight to fix.
The other noise was the lower front shock mount to lower a-arm.
The shock eye was hitting the a-arm.
Good luck!
