Starter has 1/2 inch crack. How is it still working?

I was looking around today and noticed what appears to be the starter has a rusty looking crack. I’ve been driving this almost 2 weeks and it fires up with no issue. Is this something I can ignore for a while?

Yup, you can ignore it until it wont start. Hopefully it’s at home and not somewhere where you have to get it towed + repaired.

I would get another OEM rebuilt or new starter and have it on hand along with tools to install and replace it when the old one dies, if it ever does.

Turns out it wasn’t actually cracked. It was a big rust mark that honestly looked cracked from above.
