Headlights - finding OEM replacement

My 4Runner is a Japanese import - I had assumed it would use the same headlights as the 2007 Hilux truck we have here (I don't think it was offered for sale in the USA) but the design looks slightly different.

I am just looking into my options in the unfortunate event I have an accident - I think importing parts from Japan may be prohibitive, so I wondered about a Hilux front end swap.

My truck has some sort of after marker lower front spoiler on, ignore that.

UK Spec truck

My truck (See the lower part of the headlights is recessed slightly)

Any ideas guys? Hard to believe they use different headlights for right hand drive spec vehicles but there it is!

Cheers!

Can you get a better picture of yours? They look just like the ones on the American 4Runner

Do you mean the top pic? Sorry that was just one from Google, of a UK Spec Hilux truck. I'll see if I can find a better one, unfortunately the American spec ones would be set up for Left hand drive. (You would not believe how useless the image results for "2007 Hilux" are)

If you mean the bottom pic, you can click on it for a full size version

Edit: OK here is a much better pic of the Hilux Extra Cab Exterior (2007 – 2009)

Looks like the pre-2007 American headlight.

Yes that's what I don't understand, when I look up "4th gen 4Runner" I see some have that little recessed/notched section, and some don't.

Anyone know what it's for?

I suppose worst case I'd have to get a custom bodyshop to get Hilux headlights to fit somehow.

What being said is that the headlights on your 2007 4th Gen Japanese right hand drive T4R are the same as the headlights on 2006-2009 4th Gen American left hand drive T4Rs, there's no difference in the headlights because of which side the steering wheel is on.

2003-2005 4th Gen T4Rs have a slightly different headlight shape which is why you see some 4th Gens with different headlights, so what you need to find is a source for headlights from the later 4th Gens, 2006 through 2009 models.

I'm pretty sure you will not get those Hilux headlights to fit correctly, because the shape is wrong and I'm sure the mounting tabs will also not line up.

You need to look for a Hilux Surf headlights source, are there any countries in Europe that has Hilux Surfs?

the lights from america Lhd will have the wrong cutoff in the projectors to be used in your area, you need to look for hilux surf 215 for the Rhd market. light will fit, but the output wont be correct.

look for hilux surf 215 i think.

Thanks chaps, I think it might mean getting some from Japan after all then - the closest RHD country where they were sold domestically!

Europe is all left hand drive and don't think the 4Runner/Surf ever got officially imported there either, after the 3rd gen.

Good idea to search for GRN215 though, that might come up with something in future, thanks.

Either try Japan, Australia/NZ or some island like Jamaica.

Like previously said, the lights point in the wrong direction and the cutoff is not correct if you buy from North America or any left hand drive country.

Yup, I think Japan will be the closest source to this damp little RHD rock!
