DT vs URD Y pipe. Which one?
Hi all. I'm trying to decide which y pipe to get for those who has installed each one what are your thoughts?
I will be installing DT headers after. BTW it's a '06 V8.
Thanks in advance.

I went with the DT Y-pipe and long tube headers w/Gibson catback. I’ve loved having them (my gas mileage hasn’t due to lead foot though haha)

I have an '06 V8 and have been running the DT y-pipe for about 2 years and it has been great, but it rattles ever so slightly at idle on my Shrockworks skid plate where it parallels the cross member. I went ahead and bought a URD y-pipe since the design is different and should solve the rattle. I haven't switched them out, but when I do I will be looking to sell my DT y-pipe if you are interested in a lightly used one. I am in SC 29412 and you would need to pay shipping. Holler if you are interested.

Thanks for the offer. I'm interested to find out if and when the URD one gets installed what one is better.

My vote would be for the DT Y-pipe as it has resonators that will help with the rasp of these motors.
Additionally, it's routed in such a way that the transmission pan can still be serviced while the URD isn't.

I have read alot of reviews on Tacoma, fj and another 4runner forum that the URD is preferred as the DT Has been hit or miss on fitment and most of those users have switched over to the URD. Alot have said that most of the rasping is if you remove all the cats and install a high flow cat back.
I was hoping someone or many that have done this install could chime in as this is going on a 4runner v8 not a Tacoma or fj with the 4.0.

I literally have the DT y-pipe on my V8 and it fit perfectly fine out of the box and I have no reason to switch to the URD. As I stated in my post, the URD would be a downgrade in my opinion as it has no resonators, and makes servicing the transmission more difficult.

I recall
@ Formidable
had URD y-pipe installed on his v8 4runner and really liked it. Better steel than Doug Thorley.

I went with the URD after my driver DS cat was cut out, shortly after getting the truck last August. Fitment was great, except both of the super nice gaskets you get with it (upstream cat to Y-pipe) went this summer, I'd chalk up to my fault for not paying attention to centering them during install.
I went with the URD, even though spendier, because the DT resonators resemble the stock cats, so I didn't want to deal with them being cut again. I've got stock (leaking) headers, and stock rusted catback (hole rusting on top of muffler, tailpipe rusted and missing out of muffler). I ended up replacing both DS O2 sensors with Densos, as my remaining passenger O2 was completely seized even after PB blaster and the torch. Ended up splitting the O2 bung on the stock Y pipe with the angle grinder to free it before recycling the passenger cat.
FYI, I also had to replace the Y-pipe to catback hardware, as it fell apart (also rusted to hell) taking it apart with the impact. Keep in mind I'm in MN and the truck had 240K when I did this.

The question you ask about CAT delete, is the very reason these Y pipes are discontinued. The EPA is making an example out of vendors/mfg of performance parts that bypasses or renders emissions control inoperable. (CAT delete). Thanks, in part, to the diesel brothers TV show, and I'm sure there was some rolling of coal involved also.
The EPA is also trying prevent the modifying of street cars into race vehicles all together.
So in URD's case it's the Y pipe and his o2 simulators. DT couldn't keep theirs in stock half the time anyway.
Custom made might be the only way to go for the 4Runner.
Another volcano erupted, so all that carbon release will be blamed on the car buying public, and we'll see more government over reach shortly.

I love the DT long tube headers and y-pipe, so there's my two cents. Haven't tested if the Y-pipe hanger would clear skid plates if you had any, mine hangs suspiciously low however definitely able to be cut shorter if that became an issue.
I will say while I'm here, the magnaflow overland exhaust is another story. drones like there's no tomorrow and major clearance issues. Not sure if its the headers, y-pipe, or both but it just doesn't fit without eventually and regularly hitting/melting something under the vehicle. possibly looking at either a Gibson or just chopping the exhaust and welding in a J pipe.

I actually installed a Magnaflow Overland exhaust on my 4Runner just last week and don't have any exhaust drone, although it's louder than I expected. I didn't have any fitment or clearance issues either. However, I'm still on the OEM exhaust manifolds and y-pipe. I have a set of DT long tube headers and their y-pipe waiting to be installed. I'll probably get around to doing it in the spring. I'm assuming the exhaust drone is caused by the combination of the Magnaflow catback + DT manifolds and y-pipe... Hopefully I won't have any fitment issue when I replace the manifolds and y-pipe.

I wish you the best with getting the whole system to work together. I'm about two more loose clamps away from welding the entire magnaflow assembly together.
