Carrier for spare tire and gas can

I am looking for a hitch carrier that can tote a gas can or other small cargo, along with the spare tire.

Found some online, but not wanting to pay $1,000 or more. Harbor freight has a carrier for $70, but you can’t mount the spare tire with it.

Anything out there that’s not expensive that can haul both?

Most off the shelf swing-out units like RIGd, Wilco, Dirtcomm Trail Swing, etc… are in the $1300-$1700 range depending on what accessories you add. To find something less costly you may need to see if a local Fab shop can build you something. Even then, you may not save much.

One of the problems with hitch mounted cargo carriers are that while cheap, they are fixed in one position. You lose the convenience of the back hatch/cargo area. If you need anything, you either climb over the back seats or you take the cargo carrier off which sorta defeats the purpose. The swing out style are worth it.

I didn’t realize the carrier would block the hatch from opening. I’ll keep looking, thank you.

Rigid Armor is the only one remotely close to your price range but I don’t know if you could fashion a gas can to it. Toyota 4runner (1998-2020) — Rigid Armor

Maybe you could get a roof rack and mount the spare time up top if you don't want to drop $1k+ for a swing out carrier.

As for the hitch cargo carrier, make sure to mount the gas cans on the left side away from the exhaust tip.

Hey there, i dont know how talented you are with tools, but thought about making one yourself or asking the local welding shop for it?

I had the same problem with my atv, the ones they sold online were too expenisve, so i desinged and built one myself.

Paid only a quarter of the price what they wanted online.
I made a jerry can attachment and one for my tool box for the rearmount.

Not a bad idea. I do have a roof rack already. Thanks for the reminder about keeping the gas on the left!

I don’t know if I could make my own, but that’s an awesome idea.

Doesn’t look that way. But that’s the cheapest one I’ve seen so far.

I made this out of mostly scrap around my house. A Rotopax or other mount could be fabricated to it. My rear hatch motor doesn’t work so I have no need for access. I did the roof rack spare thing for a bit, but getting a 60 plus pound tire off of a lifted rig when you’re only 5’7” was a struggle haha.

For the money rigd is charging you literally could just buy and entire Coastal rear setup with dual swing outs if you’re able to weld… that’s the route I went after fabricating my own knock off version of the swing out, the departure angle just wasn’t good..
