Removal of the 4-bolt cover located passenger side front of the engine's timing cover, and examination of the main chain tensioner extended length, will tell the story. If the tensioner piston is extended more than ~1/2 inch, the chain is stretched. Search here under my username and P0016, you'll see what I'm talking about.
It's about a $3600 job for a shop to do it, with approx $700 of that in parts if you're using Toyota stuff (wholesale price).
