Rear vibration after calipers/rotors/pads replacement!

Good morning,

Over the past weekend, I changed out my rear calipers/rotors/pads on my 2004 4runner SR5 due to seized calipers. The rear passenger's side rotors came off easy using the two bolts method. However, the rear driver's side was a real pain to take off. I managed to broke it lose by putting a screwdriver on the adjuster and beating the front of the rotors until it came lose. Since this was the first time I'm doing rear brake jobs, I forgot to count how many clicks on the adjuster I turned down. After putting on the new rotor, I re-adjusted the brake shoe by turning the adjuster wheel up but I think I may have adjusted it too much because the shoes are touching the rotor tight where it took effort to spin the hub freely. I torqued down my lug nuts to spec.

This morning when I drove to work, I get a rear end vibration going 60mph+ like symptoms of an unbalanced tires. I just got new wheels so I know my tires are balanced.

Would the vibration be because of brake shoe adjusted too tight where it drags on the rotor?

Maybe. Jack up the rear and turn your wheels by hand and see if they turn relatively freely and listen for park brake rubbing. Adjust as necessary. I assume you bled your brakes after caliper replacement.

I'm at a lost understanding WHY if you tightened the parking brake adjuster too tight, why didn't you simply back off on the adjuster until you had it adjusted correctly, that's why it's called an "adjuster" so it can be adjusted just right!!!

Check the emergency brake springs and pins, the pins get rusty and when you force the rotor off it pulls on the springs which in turn pull the pins due to them being weaker. When they get like that they scrape the axle hub.

I'd imagine it would take all of 5 minutes to remove the rear wheels and rotate the parking brake down a few clicks and test by rotating the hubs, they should spin relatively easy. (both wheels in the air, of course) And then go for a drive. If that doesn't fix it, check your wheels again, maybe a wheel weight came loose?
