Remote start with factory remote?
Does anyone have such a system? If not what are you guys running for aftermarket alarm/remote start? Looking to add remote start since its getting cold and I hate getting in a cold car lol. Thanks in advance.

I got this remote start deal from best buy and I love it! Had it for 3 years and no issues. I had to wait a few weeks out for an appointment at Best buy but it was totally worth it. The only regret is that i should have done it sooner.
My wife is a Chicago native and laughed it off when i got a remote start. It didnt take long before she wanted one too.
(Im not sure if you can get a remote start hooked up to your factory remote)
Fyi, deal ends tomorrow

Sincerely doubt you can get the factory remote to work as a starter unless you are some kind of electronic genius. I've used Compu-star remote (unmarked) without much issues for several years. What's great about Compu-Stars is that they are expandable (you can add stuff). When I get around to it, I'll upgrade to (up to date) another 2 way model Compu-Star or a Viper. The 2 way remote's screen keeps crapping out on me (annoying), but that doesn't affect the functionality.

compustar 2 way , the CS7900-AS is a good starter system, later on, you can upgrade the remote to longer range.
this will require the programmer, and also the idatalink blade, this is the bypass that is require for the key transponder for the remote start.
this uses the cm900as brain.
now the all in one is the dc3 brain, has the bypass built in, still need a programmer to flash the brain.
install is easy if you can read diagrams, compustar.idatalink.com to get a look of how its install.
there is a few brains out, cmx , dc3 , cm900as and cm7000 which is discontinued.
i personally have the cmx brain and the t12 remote and dronemobile. this system is about 900, almost 500 for the system and 400 for the service. self install so no warranty like private shops.

There are after market options to use the factory remote, it's something like press the unlock button 3 times in a row and the car starts. I added one to my daughter's Accord and will never do it again. It gives very little for range and on some cars when the car is running you cannot unlock the doors with the fob. I'm partial to the Crimestopper brands and the 4runner will need a bypass module. A t-harness also makes the install easier.
Every car I buy gets remote start added by me, I've installed maybe a dozen of them in the last 25 years. This is the brand I went with for the 4runner and my wife's van but there are other brands that are fine. Mine has the 2-way remote which I can start the truck while sitting in my warm cubicle. These kits come with everything needed and allow you to start 2 different cars assuming the other car has the same kit. This seller is also on Amazon and is pretty responsive to questions.
One other thing, I think 05 and newer 4Runners have Canbus which makes features like door locks painless to setup, at least it did on my wife's Odyssey. You may be able to configure it to open the rear window but not sure as my rig is too old.

I have the Avital remote start on my 2005 4Runner. It comes with it's own remote that's very similar in size to the factory remote but I am very impressed with the range (about 50 yards) and have never had any issues with it.

i think the newer 5th generation is can-bus, these 4th gen still require you to wire directly to the lock and unlock wire.
talk about install on newer vehicles is alot easier, so far my installs compared to my truck to my lady's camry, we just use about 5 to 7 less wires.

They definitely added CAN Bus to the Gen 4 but maybe not all modules like door locks are on it. Quite true on the ease of adding to most newer cars.

Do any of the aftermarket options allow you to roll the rear window down with the remote?

mine was a full reinstall, since i was upgrading to the newer stuff, not that hard at all if your 12volt savy. took me a few hours since i took out the old and full rewire the new. this was using new aftermarket remotes, you can subscribe to the mobile service and use your phone as the remote too. with everything service and 3 mile range remote came out close to 1000 just for parts. i also have a programmer to flash the bypass and brain.

yes, you need to wire a relay up to the switch wires, it can be either up or down.
need to trigger the ignition at the same time and connect the down wire for down, and vise versa, also doors need to be closed.
