Sub blown again: Need DFW audio shop recommendation to swap out JBL system

I have a blown sub again. The last time it went out, I was able to find a slightly used one, but I am thinking of revamping my audio setup.

I have a 2006 Sport Edition with JBL, which I have owned for about 11 plus years now and have absolutely no plans to ever sell deserves an audio upgrade.

- Not looking to put massive subs in the trunk, just wanting to replace with something that is better than OEM while maintaining OEM look.

- I already have an upgraded head unit with wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto with a backup camera.

- I've recently relocated to DFW so don't have an experience with the shops here. Looking for a good audio shop to swap out all the speakers, amp, sub, and redo the wiring.

- Budget is about $1,500 or so.

Welcome to DFW!

Save the cash and do it yourself. It's not hard. With all the resources available online, it's a no brainer...unless you just don't have the time, then I get it.

Since you are not looking for a ton of bass I would get a powered underseat sub to replace the rear one. It would be a more cost effective route, less complexity and saves funds to buy better speakers or more mods. I like these but there are many more options.

Just wanted to add, I'm local to you and I enjoy installing this stuff so if you want to just research and buy what you want and need a hand installing, let me know!

Dallas crew! I have a non-jbl basic system, though with some modifications from the before times (I bought used). I too need a refresh, as my tweeters dont work and I have a constant buzz at any volume over 0. I'm also doing it myself, which is why it hasn't progressed much in a year ;)

Honestly the biggest issue has been the lack of time. We just recently relocated here and just moved into our new home a few weeks ago. Got way too many house projects, along with a 9 month old boy that basically leaves no time at all for the 4Runner right now.

Thats why I figured I find a reputable shop to just replace all the speakers, sub, amp, and redo the wiring so that everything is done correctly.

haha same here man. Just have not had any time to get anything done since we had our little one earlier this year. I finally washed the 4runner after like 2 months this past weekend. hehe

Check out The Tread Depot, seems the be a great spot. They should be able to handle anything you throw at them. I am in Austin, so, this is only hearsay. Best of luck!

So I went to a local audio shop, which had hundreds of great reviews and was recommend by a friend.

The shop said my subs keep blowing because I have an after market unit pushing too much power to it and the subs keep heating. They said I couldn't just replace the existing one and would need to get an aftermarket sub enclosure + amp. Their quote for sub with new enclosure, amp, and new speakers = $2500 ($650 was labor). I thanked them and left. Their explanation just didn't sit well with me because I know I've seen tons of members on here swap out the oem sub with a aftermarket sub.

Ordered me a new sub from crutchfield for $210 (pandemic pricing) that fits right into the oem enclosure. No cutting was required and only modification was having to drill new holes as they didn't line up for the new sub.

Used the following two videos for instructions: First video is great for overall instructions to get to the sub. Second video is good for wiring part.
