After slower shipping time from the seller being in Canada, and the Christmas and New Year’s Day postal holidays, my cupholder insert arrived today, 1/3. I think Etsy estimated delivery between 12/28 and 12/31.

It looks good and well made, and it fits in the opening securely. I ordered a black one with the slot between the two big holes. (There are color and slot options.)

I haven’t used it yet, but there’s no reason to think it won’t work well.

I recommended it to anyone looking at it.

So the @circiondesigns product is good and it would be perfect with the following change. I know nothing about 3D printing so maybe it's not feasible but I wanted to make the suggestion nonetheless.

The biggest shortcoming with the stock cupholders and alternative ones I've seen is the challenge of securely holding various beverage container sizes. This could be accomplished with this product by 1) making both openings the same size as the one on the passenger side and 2) adding 4 or more flexible, curved splines or tabs similar to what is circled in the image. These are essentially flat, curved springs that the container displaces outward as it fits down into the opening so the tabs hold it securely in the center.

Is it possible to do something like this when manufacturing the insert? I have a few ideas for what I might use to mod the one I bought with splines and will post here if anything comes of that.

Hello again everyone, I appreciate the reviews and bumps people have posted; looking at a lot of my etsy reviews, as well as here-- people wish they found the item earlier.

I'm grateful for everyone giving me this opportunity to prosper in the field that I like, as well as giving me ideas.
And yes, as OP before noted, I am indeed 18.

Would love to see you guys posting more pictures and reviews of the cupholder-- I am free to new ideas and designs, as well as suggestions.
More exposure, more people having the chance to get to see the cupholder.

1. By that you mean having both openings 3 5/8in, instead of the driver side being 3 1/4in?
I have that designed actually, however the phone cutout would have to be removed as there wouldn't be any space for it. I have an ad besides what OP has posted, which is customizable-- color and configuration wise. I can add that configuration.

2. Unfortunately 3d printed items do not share the same bond strength compared to traditionally manufactured parts. I'm sure a mechanism could be created that would lock the cup, but it would either: require way more labour than former would take, have to be multiple parts, be much bulkier. A spline however would simply break too easily.

What is the diameter of your bottles?

@circiondesigns , thanks for the explanation. The item that doesn’t work well is a soda bottle that is unusually narrow. I’m going to try modding the cup holder and will post a writeup if it works just so people can do it if they so choose.

I would just cut off the “hook” from what’s in your picture, and then stick what’s left into the cupholder insert.

Do be aware that the cupholder is not solid on the inside, and the perimeters are about 1.2mm in thickness. After that you will encounter a wireframe like structure.

That is definitely good to know. Thanks.

Received my cup holder insert in the mail today. I ordered mine with both openings the smaller diameter. Drops right in with a nice solid interference fit. Will update after some real world testing. Thanks @circiondesign, nice work young man.

I got mine today and it looks great. For ideas on upgrades - not sure if it's feasible given the space constraints but it would be nice if there was a spot to mount a USB plug. Lots of folks with older 4Runners have upgraded stereos with USB/Smartphone connections, or added charging ports. Since the holder has a spot for the phone, being able to run the USB port there would keep the wires all neat. I don't see an obvious spot to add it, though.

Thanks @circiondesign for a cool product.

Yeah, unfortunately I don't think there would be any good way to bring usb charging to the cupholder. Majority of people enjoy the simplicity, which may definitely be the selling point of this cupholder.

However, for those that are willing to work with wires, I'd love to hear your opinion on a cupholder with heat cell at the bottom of the cupholder.
Essentially you would plug in the wire coming from the cupholder(a complete filler of the compartment in this version) into either the 12v cigarrete lighter, or wire it to the wires next to the gearbox.
When turned on, it would either heat up the metal piece at the bottom, or heat it around the cup, haven't done any designs on it yet, but would love to hear your guys' opinions on it.
