How to retain Steering wheel controls with deck upgrade.

Hey all,

I have an 08 4Runner Sport Edition with JBL system.

So I upgraded the factory deck to an Atoto A6 Pro, which was cheap and has a ton of features, but for the life of me I can't get the Steering Wheel controls to work.

I used the CRUX SWRTY-61J wire harness which states it will retain SWC. But I couldn't get it to work, no buttons would program at all.

Then I seen another video where a guy was wiring his deck to his Tacoma and while using a different harness also couldn't get SWC to work either, but said he ditched the harness and wired 3 wires from the deck to vehicle side wires harness to specific colors. These wires were the ground, the SWC+, and SWC#+.

After doing so, I can get 2 buttons to program and that's it.

Also read some places as well that the Toyota SWC system, you have to wire in resistors in to make it work properly.

Did anyone else experience this, if so what resistors do I need and where do they go?

Following because I bought an Axxess ASWC-1 from Crutchfield this past summer that I now might not install until next April/May because it’s so cold outside here (Chicago).

One end of the ASWC-1 attaches to the back of my aftermarket head unit with a jack, but I will have to do my own creative wiring with the other end because I bypassed most of the factory wiring with my aftermarket system.

If you haven't cut the harness for the SWC, this might make it easier for you.

Buy it, program it to your car, wire it and off you go. Also gives you added button functionality with a long press you can program to each button. Took a bit to figure out bc I bought mine second hand but it worked out great on my 03

I just upgraded my head unit and needed to keep my steering wheel controls. I went with Maestro since its so flexible and I had so many issues with Metra.

Works great and i can add so many other features to Maestro. Had to get another harness for the rear amp. Such a pain.

I was replying to another poster, but if you want to try the harness I listed, it also requires the Axxess ASWC-1. I'm not sure how that works in relation to the JBL system with factory amps though.

Do you have the JBL system?

I got the Crux harness but I can't get it to work.

I didn't have the JBL system and my issue was with the hidden rear amp that needed to bypassed with a special wiring harness.

The Crux harness is not working with the steering wheel controls. Get the Maestro, a few different versions but they are the best.
