Question Compatible cams for 05 4.7 2uz-fe T4R

Hi all. Been lurking here a long time, appreciate all of the information. I had an overheat and subsequent blown head gasket. Once I got the heads back from the machine shop and began assembly on the drivers side (passenger went fine) while hand tightening the cam caps evenly and slowly the intake cam snapped in half. Big bang! Quite surprised as I didnt feel like I had any tension on it, was still taking up slack in valvetrain.
I have been searching the forum and the web for which models and years I can shop for a replacement from. Best I can tell its..
2000-04 Tundra (I would have thought after 05-06 as prior were non-vvti?)
2001-04 Sequoia (also believe this is 05-x)
and to my knowledge 05-09 4Runner (mine is vvti) but I find it as 04-11/04 all over the place. What does that mean anyway?

Can anyone confirm or correct me on this? I would have thought all vvti 4.7's if any, but I cant really find any detail on the cams in comparisons, I gathered the years and models above while checking 'This part fits' sections while shopping.

These guys may be able to help here in the states (Sarasota).
XAT Racing > XAT Racing | World Famous Tuning & Parts Supply House

Most of the UZ knowledge I've found is in New Zealand.
Enquiry Form - Kelford Cams

Of course cost and shipping from Kelford are going to be an issue to say the least.

This You Tube channel is pretty good if you can learn to understand the Kiwi accent. CartuneNZ - YouTube
Kelvin seems to be a good guy and may be able to answer a question or two. He has been quick to respond to my questions in the past given the time difference.
Good Luck!

Thank You. I came across a few race cam shops and thought that I would give them a call to see if they could point me in a direction as well. Plan to call the dealer in the morning to see if I can get anywhere there as well.

If these shops give you any help, post up what you find out. It would be much appreciated.
There is not a lot of info out there on rebuilding these engines. Lots of info about Ford and GM V8s, but not the 2UZ.

No there sure isnt. I have a friend in warranty claim (mechanic for years) who knows alot of people in the business including Toyota dealerships, and the company he works for also have a division selling used parts. He is going to see what he can find out or to confirm the below. Everyone I talk to says all engines in an engine code would be identical so in theory we should be able to shop from...

2004–2009 Lexus GX 470
2005–2007 Lexus LX 470
2005–2009 Toyota 4Runner
2005–2011 Toyota Land Cruiser
2005–2009 Toyota Tundra
2004–2009 Toyota Sequoia
2007-2012 Lexus LX 470 (Hong Kong Only)

Will post up any info I get.

Wow I did the exact same as you I didn't even have a wrench on my cam install and it snapped in half. Where did you finally find a cam for yous? Thanks

I ended up buying a used set off ebay out of a similar year tundra.
"108W034 Left Camshafts Set Pair 2008 Toyota Tundra 4.7" was the advert. It would likely have been a better idea to use both of these because they were slightly different but I had the passenger side in and was honestly pretty fed up by this point. It is not advertised to fit but took a chance with it. It was not identical, I dont recall if it was longer or shorter than my original behind the last cap (firewall end) but it was minimal and best I could measure lift, duration etc was all the same. It ran fine for many more miles but I have traded it for a 19' T4R now. In hindsite I probably should have traded it broken, I got for it about what it took to repair it, but at the time I was figuring on keeping it awhile.
I believe that I didnt have the front set of bolts down far enough and put it more of a bind than I was realizing, still shocked it broke so easily, was just beyond finger tight. I may not have had it indexed right and been coming down on a valve that should have been up. We took the head back off after the mishap and saw no sign of piston-valve having met though. Sure miss old school single stick pushrod engines. Made my head hurt dealing with the timing, vvti, etc. I am not a mechanic by trade, was over my head. Thank all here and at other forums for sharing your knowledge on so many subjects.
Good luck in your hunt, parts were scarce. Unlikely to find a low mile pullout at the yard but would be worth consideration.
