Need Help with Rear Bumper and Hitch Part Numbers

Hello,

I was recently rear-ended and my OEM hitch took most of the impact. The hitch was bent and the bumper was damaged. I took it to my local Toyota body shop and they put the following part numbers in the quote:

Rear bumper cover - 52159-35190
Trailer Hitch - 51909-35011

When I search for rear bumpers, I see two options. The one above says "with tow hitch", and the other option (52159-35200) says "without tow hitch". My assumption is the one quoted has a notch cut out for the hitch found on the V8 4Runners. However, mine is a V6 and has no notch. I don't want them to install the wrong bumper and end up with a notch with no hitch to fill the opening.

Additionally, the hitch quoted looks nothing like the one I have. Mine is a tube style that bolts to the frame rails. The one quoted is just a small piece that bolts to the cross member. I can't find a tube style hitch on any Toyota parts sites so perhaps it is discontinued? Can anyone help me identify the correct part numbers? I don't have much confidence in the body shop.

The tow hitch shown in your photo is not an OEM tow hitch, it's an after market tow hitch, to replace it with a Toyota heavy duty hitch more commonly known on these forum as the "V8" tow hitch you would need the bumper with the "notch", it's hard to find many dealers that have the "V8" tow hitches, but here's a link to one dealer who appears to have one, you can also see if you look closely the difference between it and your after market hitch, to use the use the bumper without the notch you would have to get another aftermarket hitch similar to the one you have now.

Be careful to use the exact part number if you look elsewhere for the OEM "V8" hitch to fit your 2007, because the earlier "V8" tow hitches (2005 and before) are slightly different with a different part number, not sure what exactly the difference is but the linked "V8" tow hitch says it doesn't fit my 2004 V8 Limited.

Oh wow it appears you are correct. I just assumed this was an OEM hitch. I just looked at the window sticker and sure enough it didn't come with one when sold new (I purchased it used). And I doubt the body shop will be able to locate the V8 hitch but I suppose I could ask them.

Does anyone know if the OEM hitch I linked to requires the notched bumper? I haven't been able to find any pictures of that hitch installed. And where would the 7-pin connector attach to the 4Runner since it's currently attached to this hitch (bolted to a plate that is welded to the hitch tube as seen in the picture). Thanks for the help!

I gave you a link to source the OEM "V8" tow hitch, most Toyota sites lists it as not available but I assume that Toyota site can get it or has it in stock, only one way to find out and that is to contact them and see if they do indeed have it for sale, just an FYI you won't find another heavy duty tow hitch that's comparable in quality to that OEM listing and the price is about the same as any after market hitch, also not that much more than the lesser "V6" hitch which won't compare to the "V8" hitch in towing strength if you need it.

The "V6" hitch you linked doesn't need the notch in the bumper....but it does attach to a rear cross member that I'm not sure if the rear cross member is there on a T4R that came with the "V8" hitch from the factory, you might want to check to see if the rear cross member is still there on yours it may had to be removed to install the aftermarket hitch and you might need additional parts/adapter/bolts, etc. to attach it to your 2007 since it doesn't have the original OEM "V6" tow hitch
