Hey Sparky, apparently it functions AOK but the illumination is shot on the LH side. The display looks all black like something blew up only LH side.
I thought it was the one small bulb in the upper LH corner but that didn't fix the display. What do you think?

Can you attach a picture? Only half of the screen is out? Sound like the larger display bulb is out. Hopefully very easy fix. If thats not it, you may have a cracked display.

I have either the same issue or a similar issue, on my display the whole screen is readable but the left half is dimmer/darker than the right side, it's only been this way for about a year that I've noticed.

I do have some bulbs out on the controls and have been procrastinating on pulling it apart to replace them.

What say you @S p a r k y ?

Which of the bulbs in this diagram did you replace?

https://www.toyota-4runner.org/671235-post17.html

When I bought my '07 back in 2016 I went ahead and replaced all of the bulbs because one was burned out and figured it was worth doing them all while I had it apart.
