08 SR5 V6 towing recommendations?

Hi everyone. I have a 2008 SR5 with a V6. Last year I put a hitch on the it. It’s a class 3 hitch rated at 5000 pounds.

I’m thinking of buying a used car for my niece. It’s a 2012 Toyota Corolla which weighs approximately 3500 pounds. My truck has about 280,000 miles and runs great.

Are there any concerns with towing that much weight to Illinois from Florida which is about 1250 miles?

U-Haul offers a full trailer or a 2 wheel dolly. I was thinking about going with the dolly instead of the full trailer.

Thoughts, concerns, recommendations?

Thanks!

EDIT: I probably should’ve added another one of my concerns. Is the tongue wait impacted by one type of trailer over another? If so how do I know what the tongue weight will be and how much my truck can handle? Looking for advice as I am a complete newbie when it comes to towing. Thanks

You want a dolly that has surge brakes. U-Haul will know if theirs do.

The trailer will have much more tongue weight than a tow dolly and a trailer will also weigh a lot more. I think it's a no brainer to go with a dolly.

The v6 is pretty sluggish when towing any significant weight. You will likely experience some irregular shifting once the trans gets up to temp if you run overdrive the whole time. Combine that with some of the steeper grades near the Appalachians and things can really slow down.
Look at a route that avoids as much of that as possible. Also consider adding a trans cooler for cheap insurance..

Been thinking about it more. Not sure if it’s worth the risk. May just have to drive the car back or ship it instead.

Thanks for the input.
