Question Putting a Sequoia 2UZ-FE into a 2004 4Runner?

I haven't been able to find a used 4.7L for my 2004 4Runner (neither the Lexus or 4Runner version) from a reputable seller. They have plenty of Tundra and Sequoia engines.

Do you think I can strip everything off of my 4Runner engine and install a Sequoia or Tundra 2UZ-FE? Is the difference only the exhaust manifold and the motor mounts?

LKQ won't warranty the engine if I put a Tundra/Sequoia 2UZ-FE into a 4Runner because they show it as not compatible.

Has anyone accomplished this? Does it seem feasible? What are the differences important to know for installation?

Thanks! 🙏🔧

Once upon a time, I installed a 5VZFE from a 4runner into my Tacoma. I don't see why it wouldn't work to be honest. As long as you aren't trying to throw a vvti 2UZ in a non vvti truck

You might need a Sequoia ECM, I don't know. Or swap your harness over to the Sequoia 4.7, if you can do that, which I would imagine you can, I don't see why it wouldn't work.

As long as the engine you get doesn't have VVT-i, then you should be fine. If you get a VVT-i engine, then you are going to need the ECU from the Sequoia or Tundra. That might also mess with the transmission.

LKQ are idiots if they can't determine that the 4th gen 4Runner had the V8 option.

The 2UZ should be the same between the models, as long as it's not VVT-i.
