4wd actuator reassemble help
2006 v6 SR5
I had been having some issues with my 4wd not engaging and found some posts on how to troubleshoot the actuator / free it if it is seized. I was able to get the housing open and initially marked where the gears were and got it back together. I tried a few times and could hear things moving but I must have messed up putting it back together. I noticed that the shaft on the top with the teeth (sorry I don't know all the part names) has moved in and out as I put things back together and try again, so it seems like things are powered and not seized up, but out of place. On my last attempt to put it back together the large gear (which I thought was 1 piece) came apart and after trying to get it back together the 4x4 green light is on and 4Lo is flashing while in 2. When I put it in 4H the green light stays on and 4Lo starts flashing, when I put it in 4Lo the lights stay the same but it starts beeping (as tho I attempted to put it in 4Lo and it failed to do so). Is there anywhere online that outlines how to put the gears back in line with the switch, or does anyone have any tips? I found a few used parts on eBay, wondering if it might just be worth swapping it out if getting the placement is too tricky.
