Window rubber strip replacement

Just noticed this part has perished and split, are they easy to replace and are they a generic item?

Cheers!

I can get pattern part replacements easily enough for the 5th gen on AliExpress, anyone know if they would be backward compatible?

Looks like 4th gen would have to come from the USA with increased postage.

They are very easy to replace, roll down the window remove one screw and pull it back and up, do the hatch as well, it usually goes bad before the doors, no screws on the hatch just roll down the window and pull up to remove.

I doubt that 5th Gens pieces will work but I don't know for sure.

If you have time, can you share where you end up getting it? I need to replace this part as well. Thanks!

Hey mate, in the end I just went with your side of the pond

GENUINE OEM TOYOTA 03-09 4RUNNER FRONT & REAR DOOR GLASS WEATHERSTR SET | eBay

To be fair the price is reasonable for an OEM part.

Contact the parts department at your local Toyota dealer. Mine were in stock and the same price as Amazon. Added benefit - genuine Toyota parts.

Just to add from my experience, it's worth peeling back the bottom section of the plastic barrier to check that none of the old weatherstrip pieces broke off and fell into the bottom of the door. In 4 out of 5 of my windows, I had some level of old rubber gunk blocking a drain hole.

Also, I ordered all OEM replacements, though it wasn't too pricey as I got them from Cobb County toyota who has ~30% off, like some other dealerships, as well as free shipping over $75.

My local dealer would look at me as if I had turned up in a UFO! (It's not an officially imported model here)

I want to add my experience with replacing the window weather stripping for all four doors.

Ordered all four parts from oem parts source dot com.

The process is pretty simple, but not exact.

Meaning, I would unscrew one score on each door, have to pull/tug/wiggle thr stripping to get it out.

Reversed the process when adding the new one.

Once you get the new one put in and properly aligned, shut your door and press down pretty firm, and you will hear the weather strip click into place. Keep doing this until it is nice and snug along thr door.

Almost forgot...

Make sure you CLEAN OFF the area where the new weather stripping will be.

Might be another 5+ years before these need to be replaced again, and getting that dirt and grime cleaned up will help longevity of this vehicle.

That's a very good point, stuff like that will soak up moisture and cause rust. Cheers!
