Running 285's without BMC
Currently running E rated 255/80R17 Toyo Open Country AT II's. Looking to run 285/70R17's because I want a bit of a softer ride with C rated tires. I have stock SR5 wheels (pictured below), spidertrax spacers, and JBA upper control arms.
If anyone is running 285's without a BMC, what's your suspension/wheel setup (wheel specs, caster, etc)?
Not opposed to getting a BMC, but would like to avoid if not necessary.

You'll be able to run it if you drive straight and barely turn. If you flex it off road you will rub like crazy without a bmc.

If you take out the spacers then you won’t need a bmc.

I’m running 285/70r17 Milestar Patagonia M/T tires on 17x8 American Racing AR893 wheels with +25 offset and 1.25” Spidertrax spacers. Caster is factory spec. I have a 3” suspension lift in the front plus a 1” body lift. No body mount rubbing yet, but I haven’t flexed the suspension either (all on-road). I have bought BMC plates, but I haven’t done the BMC yet. I will in the spring/summer just to be safe.

285s probably won't clear the UCAs on the +30 wheels, but I believe they will on +15 wheels like the newer 5th gen wheels. If you run spacers on the +30 wheels, it will bring your effective offset to -1.75 and cause more scrub radius than you want to maintain the body mount
High caster ucas are actually not helping fitment at the body mount. They restore the caster figure by leaning the spindle back in the wheel well, which in turns brings the tire closer to the body mount
You could run SPC arms, push the LCAs forward with the cam bolts, and use the SPCs to do the alignment. You'd probably still be able to get 3* of caster, but the wheels would be further forward in the wheel well. This is how I run 35x10.5s without having to cut my body mount, except I'm running a bit lower caster to keep the tires out of the fire wall.

I have Dobinsons 2.5", SPC UCAs, FN wheels -10 offset, running 285/70/17. No BMC and no rubbing at all.

This is a good thread, but wondering for myself...
I installed JBA UCAs with my approx. 3.5" lift and have the 7.5" wide stock rims w/ 30mm offset. Thinking about getting some 285s, but I believe this would require wheel spacers to clear the UCAs, so I would likely go with 1.25" spidertrax. So the question is this - if I go this route, and also try to max out caster close to 4 degrees, would I still need a BMC to get the tires to fit? I know experiences vary a lot, but just wondering what folks think about this setup.

I ran 285/70R17 Nitto Terra Grapplers on stock Sport wheels without much issue long time ago? Was with a 3 inch suspension lift before I got my body mount lift for my 35's. Though I had a front bumper so I didn't need to trim the fronts and I was running aftermarket upper control arms (SPCs at the time I think?)
I think it's somewhere in my build thread?

Angle grinder is $15. Add some cutoff wheels, goggles, and gloves. So like $25. Sell the angle grinder when you are done for like $5 at a garage sale.
BMC done for $20.
But at one point I had 285s that didn't rub the stock body mounts so it is possible.
