Little help

So bought a 4runner 140k miles last week, drove it home about an hour away, the oil pressure light would come on at low rpm a couple times on the trip slowing down in traffic. Bought it knowing it was leaking something and upon further research appeared to be the timing cover, so i started removing stuff and when i got to the smaller oil pan found some stuff inside, including a ****ing 12mm long socket. Took some pictures of where i'm at so you guys can see for yourselves my findings.

Wow, it's even a deep socket. Assuming you're going to go ahead and overhaul (timing chain, etc.) since you're in that deep? What year?

was discussing this with my right hand mechanic friend that always helps. I'm thinking the previous owner tried his hand at doing the timing belt and the water pump, as he caked RTV everywhere.

Should i be concerned with the metal ring/shavings i found in the oil pan?? definitely need to clean the screen/filter in the pan.

my logic of thinking is, if i drove it home an 1hr in the bad shape it was, motor should still be in solid condition, would that be correct to assume??

A s you say, safe to "assume". You might pull a couple of cam bearing caps and see if they show any signs of "wiping" from lack of oil as I believe they receive oil after your crank bearings do, so if they are ok, safe to assume the crank bearings ok.

Whatever it was wasn't catastrophic (yet haha) but if it were me, I'd try my best to determine what part(s) failed and r/r.

And having torn down the motor as far as you have, would assume TC/WP/etc. was done incorrectly and re-do them. Also consider head gaskets if your truck is pre-2006.

If you have a V6 (which is what it looks like) you do not have a timing belt, you have a timing chain.

My right hand is literally like just change it while your in there. So heads are coming off to change head gaskets, theirs a good shop that can machine them for us.

Water pump
Oil pump (piece of mind)
Knock sensors
Harmonic balancer
Timing chain and components
