How to remove washer fluid resevoir?

I tried to pour more washer fluid into the tank the other day and it all poured out the bottom. Had a laugh then realized I can't actually see the tank, and I'm wondering how I'd go about removing it.
I've got a 2003 V8 Sr5.
Any help is much appreciated.

If I remember correctly when I removed mine I had to remove the fender liner on the passenger side. Then most of the bolts are visible from the fender well. And that tank is actually massive. It’s a lot more than you can see from above

Unbolt/unclip the inner fender liner enough to pull it back and expose the reservoir. A 10mm socket and wrench to unbolt it. It hangs in the recess where the front body mount is. It is awkward so good luck.

Thank you, when it gets back from getting new brakes I'll try that.

If the tank is busted it would be a great time to do the tank relocation mod. I did mine a year or two ago and prefer the new location. Also cleans up underneath forif you ever decide to get a steel front bumper. The factory tank will hang down and look awful when you install the steel bumper. The relocation tank is only about $20 on Amazon and relocates up into the engine bay.

I'll take a look at that. My plan was to just use High Heat Duct Tape and tape up the holes in the tank. Your Idea seems better in the long run.

This isn’t mine because I’m not at home and can’t take a picture right now but this is the same tank I used and it’s in the exact same location as mine. Silver rhino media is where I got the idea from.

Exactly. I’m getting my bumper ready to build in the next week or two and have my reservoir mocked up in the engine bay.

Are you doing a custom bumper build? Or are you going with the true North Fab?

I bought the True North DIY kit during their Black Friday sale. I purchased it without the upper hoop and have a buddy that will bend one for me custom.

I do too, although I was going to get the Coastal Off-road kit, their price went up as the True North went on sale.

Sweet. Makes me wonder why Toyota didn't put the tank somewhere more accessible.
Thanks for the response! Chances are I'll install something close to that.

The stock tank location is actually pretty ingenious. Curving the tank around the front of the wheel allows it to taper down to a small sump for the pumps, so when the level of fluid reaches the pump inlets, there is only a small volume of fluid left. Whereas in a perfectly rectangular tank, the volume of fluid left when the pumps start taking in air is fairly high. For tanks like this and the one I made, its about 1/3 of the total volume left making only 2/3 of the tank volume usable. Not to mention, the stock tank holds a whole gallon, while this only holds about a quart.

While its a tradeoff we have to make for fitting larger tires, the original tank design is actually fairly good.
