Aftermarket Wheel Suggestions
My 4R is 2008 but in great shape and I want to keep it longer, the OEM wheels are peeling and look like crap and looking for suggestions/pics for some replacements. Prefer to keep the silver color, but could consider black, looking to spend under $1K. Let’s see some pics and suggestions.

I was in the same boat as you, with OEM rims in bad shape.
I bought two different sets of 5th gen rims on eBay, both around $500-$550 for 5 rims. The 7-spoke rims are in my signature line photo.
I have also purchased a set of American Racing AR893 rims, 17x8, for my recently purchased MT tires. I got them at Walmart for $160 each, and I saved another 5% via a credit card promotion.
Here’s a pic of the American Racing rims. I have since installed the center caps:
(The pic got rotated 90° for some reason)

Do you know what “offset” we need for these trucks or does it matter?

Why not match the factory offset?

Someone else on here certainly knows more than I do, or you could do a search for a better answer than mine. There are a bunch of threads on this forum about what wheels/tires fit without rubbing. I don’t think the differences in the offsets on all my wheels are enough to matter in my case.
I have 1.25” spacers on my 4R, which effectively subtracts 32 from each wheel’s offset.
My OEM rims had a +30 offset. I did not use wheel spacers with my OEM rims.
Both of my 5th gen sets have a +15 offset. I have used both sets with 255 width tires with the wheel spacers with no issues.
I have also used the 17x8 AR wheels (+25 offset, 285 width tires) with the wheel spacers with no issues.
I don’t think any of my tires would rub without the wheel spacers, but I have no proof of that. I am just using the spacers for the wider stance.

Off set does matter. If you get under your 4Runner and look at your current inside of tire to UCA clearance you will not want to get a wheel that pulls the wheel inboard any more than you have now. You don't want it excessively outboard either, so try and stay current backspacing/plus .25" outboard IMO.

I'm also thinking of new wheels when time comes for new tires. My 18" are old and peeling.
Those American Racing wheels look neat.
I've been eyeing the KMC 541 Dirty Harry in 17". Not cheap but I can wait for a sale.
The OEM 18" are 7.5 wide with a 25mm offset.

You can find it online if you know the wheel you have.

What size tire do you plan on getting? The larger you go, the more an offset less than 0 will cause rubbing issues.
These would look great on your Salsa red 4runner. +4 offset and very close to flush with the fender flares.

So a Tirerack chat guy had this info. I told him my current 4R Limited has 18" wheels with 7.5" width. I have Michelin 265/60 R18 LTX tires. His information was that the vehicle can use up to 9" width and +15 to +20mm offset with no problems. Their selector tool offered a 9" with +01mm offset but he said that might rub on tight turns.
Does this info sound right?

That depends on the kind of rubbing he was talking about. Wheels/tires that stick out too much can rub the fenders, and wheels/tires that are not sticking out enough can rub the UCAs (and/or other suspension parts?).
Lower or negative offset wheels stick out farther than higher or positive offset wheels.
A quick google search told me your 18x7.5” rims have a +25 offset. I can’t guarantee your results, but I think you should be ok with a +15 or +20 offset. 10mm is less than 1/2 an inch.
Keep in mind that a 9” wide rim with 0 offset will be ~19mm closer to the suspension than a 7.5” wide rim with 0 offset. I’m using 1.25” wheel spacers, so I don’t have any suspension rubbing issues with any of my wheel/tire combos. Because of my 3” suspension lift and 1” body lift, I don’t have any fender rubbing issues either. You can see my fender clearance in my signature line photo. The tires in the photo are 33” diameter. Stock were only 30.6”.
Are you looking at taller tires? Those cause other rubbing issues.

If you go from a 7.5" to a 9" width with no difference in offset your tire would move inboard .75" because of width increase, so you need to push it out at least that much, so +20mm would do that. I think a 9" with +.01mm would rub on your UCA right off the bat and the 9" may well rub on turns regardless of change in offset. Someone with experience might chime in to verify.

I didnt imagine it would be this complicated. I don’t have any spacers and since 7.5” width seems to be unusual as I browse rims, I think I will stick to the 8” width with +15 to +20 offset. I am not looking to change tires, my Michelin LTXs have only about 10K miles on them. Thanks for your replies!

True, 7.5 width is hard to find. I'd go with 8" since the narrower the wheel the more the rubber will bulge out and protect the wheel. Plus it looks better with beefier looking tires.
Have you decided on what wheels to go with?
