Back into the game...

I sold my 2007 4Runner V6 a couple years ago, but one popped on Craigslist last night dirt cheap. I ended up buying a 2005 V8 Limited with some curious problems. It has a few codes, but the check engine doesn't light. The check engine light doesn't turn on when the key is switched from off to on or any other time. Are there bulbs that I need to replace or could someone intentionally mod it so the lights don't come on?

I’m going to bet someone tampered with the check engine light bulb to pass it on to an unsuspecting customer. What kind of problems does it have? I would like to pick up a v8 4runner someday.

I was told that it has issues shifting, and that it was in "limp mode". I took it for a drive and seems to be driving just fine. I know the instrument panel was replaced because the carfax mileage went from 220,000 to 144,000 in the last couple of years.
I took it to a auto shop and it had the following codes that I'm looking at cost to fix.
P2433, C1201, P0031

I haven't spent too much time with it because of the weather, but I got a good deal on it so I'm not too worried. I'd be interested to repair the instrument panel if its possible.

I agree. It's not unheard of - I work with a guy that ran his van out of oil, it still ran (Just) but had fault coldes. He had someone open up the cluster and silicone over all the EMLs and then punted it off to a 'we buy any van' company

Don't worry OP I think you're looking at a tricky but simple problem. Have you tried disconnecting the battery and seeing what codes come back? Is the battery good? Fluctuating voltages can cause all sorts of erroneous fault codes.

P0031 is a bank 1 sensor 1 o2 sensor. A bosch o2 sensor with the correct pigtail should correct that issue for you. I'm not sure off the top of my head what the other codes are, but that o2 sensor might have caused them.

I just put an o2 in for a P0031 and it solved my problem. Good luck!

That P2433 is for the secondary air injection system, the sensor/circuit is reading high. Could be the sensor, could be a problem with the circuit. Hewitt-tech makes a bypass that may cure it.

The C1201 is a general code. Most likely set by the p2433/p0031. Could also be set due to improper zero point calibration.

P0031 is O2 sensor heater circuit low, most likely a failed O2 sensor but could be a wiring issue as well.

Happy hunting!

for the SAIS issues, @slyfox75 is the expert on here.

His system is better and cheaper than HT.
